First the big stars. One of the three grey and white Feathered Stars that are finished. Then the second. And this is where it got interesting. I realized when I finished this one that I hadn’t been paying attention when … Continue reading
I totally intended to stick with the grey and white Feathered Stars but then a new Inklingo collection was released yesterday. For tiny 3″ LeMoyne Stars. And I couldn’t resist. I have had this fabric in my stash for ages, but never quite … Continue reading
I really, really needed a break from the grey and white Feathered Stars! The second one is complete and I’ll show an unexpected design element that has happened with them this week.
So I finished yet another Yin Yang block and now have an even dozen more completed.
And I absolutely cannot pick favourites out of these.
Because I like every single one.
They all have something about them I love.
Be it my favourite shabby chic fabrics.
Or some pink.
Or a batik.
Or a favourite green.
Or a pretty cream print.
Or a pink and greens together with a cream.
Or just because it’s all that wonderful curved piecing!
I think my favourite part of making these blocks is pressing them. I know, i know – that sounds odd. But it’s so wonderful to see how perfectly they press and lie flat. Thanks, of course, to the perfect stitching lines and matching points in the Inklingo Yin Yang Collection. I tried to make one of these blocks before the Inklingo collection came out and it wasn’t pretty. It was really a volcano in the centre that I couldn’t press out, no matter how hard I tried. So I was ever so grateful when an Inklingo collection for the Yin Yang blocks did come out – it meant I could stitch these blocks as much as I wanted. And I expect I’ll make quite a few more of these shabby chic ones as they could become quite a wonderful bed runner.
And now I shall go back to the grey and white Feathered Stars and get the third one started. But I know I’ll need another break for some colour before I start the fourth.
“Yin Yang Magic”
They’re not quite curled up together, but this is about as close as these two get. And they are doing this more and more often.
Well, I didn’t really mean to vanish for two weeks. So what have I been doing? Well, for starters, my printer’s been very busy printing lots and … … and lots … … and lots of shapes. First for six … Continue reading
I have been doing some piecing, although not a lot, while I’ve been mostly missing from the blog. The projects I chose to work on were projects for which I already had lots of shapes printed and were ready, waiting for me … Continue reading
What is it? Millefiori Quilts 2. With another absolutely fabulous cover quilt. But that’s nowhere near all. There are 17 quilts in the book that are fascinating. I love Willyne Hammerstein’s use of fussy cutting to get fantastic effects in her … Continue reading
If you do, then I have only three words. What are they? Buy This Book. I’ve had Quilted Diamonds 2 since it was first published back in 2004 and it is, in my opinion, the best book on hand piecing … Continue reading
This is what a block I sewed together the other day would have looked like. No picture of that block, as I finally realized what I was doing wrong and those stitches were taken out very, very quickly – I … Continue reading
That’s what I’ve been working with – lots and lots of black and white. First of all, some black and white units for the setting pieces of the Pickled Ladies. Everything is ready for fussy cutting/printing the setting half clamshells. … Continue reading
