What’s Wrong with this Picture?

This is what a block I sewed together the other day would have  looked like. No picture of that block, as I finally realized what I was doing wrong and those stitches were taken out very, very quickly – I didn’t even want to take a picture of the offending block. So I just laid out the pieces to illustrate the nightmare block, which I merrily spent an hour or so sewing, not even beginning to twig to the fact it was completely wrong. Makes me laugh when I look at this picture but I didn’t laugh then. It was only when I was about to add the long black curved strip that I realized what I’d done. But hmm — looking at it laid out like this is giving me ideas.

This is what it should have looked like when finished.

And that’s why I’ve been missing from blogging. I’ve been a bit under the weather and clearly it has affected my ability to think when I’m sewing.

So this is about all that’s happening around here lately when it comes to sewing. Simple, easy six-point stars. I decided I need to back away quickly from anything that I had to think about before I made more blocks that required unsewing! With these I don’t even have to think about orientation – no kaleidoscope stars, just plain little 6-point stars. I’m starting to get a nice pile of these, so I may have to start thinking about how I’m going to set them.

This hasn’t stopped me from playing with ideas – the list of things I want to do test blocks for has grown by leaps and bounds. There are fabric groupings set aside just for some of the ideas. I can’t wait to feel like I’m safe with a needle in my hand and get going on some of them. Including one idea I have for the little 5-point stars from the Inklingo Passacaglia collection. Those really have me antsy to start playing. For now, though I’m back to nice safe little stars. And that’s fine, because I do love little stars and I have a couple of boxes full of diamonds I printed with Inklingo just waiting to be sewn together.

A very rarely seen scene here. They get along, but sitting together? Not very often. We were holding our breath that we’d get the photo before one of them moved.

  1. What a beautiful kitty picture! I love your little stars, and yes, I can see why your black and white block needed to be resewn……the result wouldn’t have been so good.
