It was a neighbour’s birthday yesterday and I decided to turn one of the sunflowers into a small wall quilt as a birthday gift. It measures 8″ square finished. Now I’m contemplating what other small quilts I can make with … Continue reading

We’re experimenting with some possible solutions to the camera distortion issue. And two more batik sunflowers were the subject of the experiment. First up, one that Mr. Q.O. is calling pomegranate. And this one, which I’m calling grape. Seems these … Continue reading
Making the little quilt of spool blocks is something I want to get done quickly. Yesterday I sat down and pieced one. By machine. I’m still astounded. Not once did I have to rip out a line of stitching. Everything … Continue reading
Couldn’t resist and did one more. Mr. Q.O. calls this one the Creamsicle sunflower. Seams graded and block pressed. So far it seems I’m sticking mostly with sunflower colours. That’s about to change as I have the pieces printed on … Continue reading
When I finished the red and white quilt and the 30 little sunflower blocks in it, I thought I’d never make another sunflower again. Certainly didn’t think I’d make another 6″ one. Maybe a 12″ one would be okay. But … Continue reading
Last weekend, a new Inklingo collection was released – Inklingo Spool or Japanese X (Beyer 186-2 and Brackman 1970). It’s a fabulous collection with combo pages one can use to print all the shapes for a block on each fabric. … Continue reading
It has been a very long time since I’ve worked on the Memories of Smudge Yin Yang blocks. I just didn’t have it in me to work on them until now. So last night I got the finished blocks out … Continue reading
All the shabby chic Yin Yang blocks are ready to stitch now. I spent a while last week and on the weekend deciding which 4 pieces would go in each block and have them stacked, ready to stitch. Having done … Continue reading
This is an enormous block for me – 18″ from side to side and about 21″ from point to point. I’m going to make two of them and then turn them into — well, I don’t know yet. I might just add setting pieces to turn them into large rectangles and use them as the covers of a stitching book. It’s made with the Inklingo 18″ Rose Star collection. I used the 3″ hexagons and one-third of the 3″ hexagons from the 3″ Hexagon collection for some of the shapes as well as the kites in the Rose Star collection. I fussy cut the large centre hexagon. Had I used all kites, I could have had an entirely different effect.
The back after grading the seams and pressing.
A new small project was added to the list. Enough was printed on fabric for 12 blocks and I’ll hopefully have the first one made sometime today. It’s going to be a small quilt made up of only the 12 blocks and a border. Some fussy cutting and printing to make a couple of trial blocks for the Pickled Ladies pieced border was the major thing I wanted to get done on the weekend and I did. Now to make a couple of those blocks and decide if I like how it looks.
Baxter loves the top tier of his kitty tree during the day.
And, as shown in this Baxtertoon, he also loves it at night.
In fact, as I was writing this post last night, his paws were dangling mid-air as he snoozed in that top tier.
Piecing of my favourite shabby chic fabrics, that is. One more of the shabby Yin Yang blocks was stitched last night to add to the stack. I need to do a lot of stitching with black and white fabrics for … Continue reading
