Once I had nine of the little kaleidoscope stars made with the .50″/1″ star points, I decided to start playing with a setting idea. So I quickly printed some elongated hexagons and 1″ diamonds. For the trial I used some muslin, but think I’ll like it better with something different – perhaps a green or even a white on white – so I will be taking this apart. But I wanted to see if I actually liked this idea and I do. For a few days though, it’s being set aside.
Why? Because Springtime in Paris is very, very close to being finished. All but the last few blocks are done. Row 9 was added to the quilt last night and these are all that are left to stitch and row 10 will be done, ready to attach to the rest and then the top will be, for the most part, finished. And I am determined to try to finish it this week.
Spring has definitely arrived. The crab apple tree is covered in beautiful pink buds. In another day or two the scent of the blossoms will be wonderful.

I can’t believe how small Baxter seems in this photo. If there’s one thing he isn’t, it’s small. He’s easily twice the size of Jake.
I really didn’t mean to vanish for a week. It seems lately that although I get great ideas for blog posts I just am not getting them written. No idea why, but that’s just what’s going on. Maybe too much … Continue reading
There are very few of the brown and blue paisley kaleidoscope stars left to make so I decided to make one to add to the stack of finished ones. These ones are made using the 2″ diamonds. Then another. A … Continue reading
That’s what the little stacks here represent – all the pieces needed for 80 more of the little black and white stars. Baxter was very interested in those little stacks of shapes so we had to take the photo quickly … Continue reading
It seems like it’s been ages since I worked on something really tiny. So out came the .50″ black and white diamonds and I made a few of the miniature stars. I printed these shapes a few years ago and … Continue reading
I’m getting close to the end of the blue and brown paisley kaleidoscope stars. And each time I make one, I’m surprised at the result. Paisley fabrics are clearly among the best for kaleidoscope stars. I think these will be … Continue reading
For some reason, the camera just doesn’t capture the colour of this fabric. It’s a lovely light lavender but looks more blue/grey in this photo. And it’s the fabric I’ve chosen to set the wild floral kaleidoscope stars. Again, the … Continue reading
Now that the butterfly and wild floral kaleidoscope stars are all made, I’m concentrating on getting the brown and blue paisley ones finished. I think I know what I’m going to use to set these. And that will be either … Continue reading
I really can’t pick a favourite from these two – I love the effects I got with fussy cutting/printing all of these wild floral kaleidoscope stars. But of this pair I definitely have a favourite – the one on the … Continue reading
