Butterfly Kaleidscope Stars … Again

See this lovely stack of butterfly kaleidoscope stars, all with their surrounding diamonds? The stack is made up of more stars than it appears. There are well over 60 stars in that pile. And now they’re all done. Next is figuring out … Continue reading

And Then There Were Three

Three of the little 4.5″ Patchwork of the Crosses blocks, that is. I just couldn’t resist on the weekend and made one more to add to the slowly growing pile of these way too cute for words tiny blocks. There … Continue reading

Tiny Blocks and A Friend’s Great News

While I am committed to finishing the butterfly kaleidoscope stars quilt top, I was really feeling the need to work on something else for an evening. Sticking with just one project is unusual for me. Doing it basically twice in a row? … Continue reading

Stars, Stars and More Stars

I know, I know – I said I wasn’t going to show each of these as I add their setting diamonds, but I can’t resist! They really do look a bit different once they’re surrounded by the setting diamonds. I … Continue reading

The Final Eight Butterfly Kaleidoscope Stars

I can’t believe I’m finished making these. This one makes me think of a peony. They were such fun to see as each little surprise showed up when they were stitched together. This is one of my favourites, although I … Continue reading

A Few More Butterfly Kaleidoscope Stars

The butterfly kaleidoscope stars were in the back of my mind the whole time I was working on Springtime in Paris. So as soon as the piecing of it was finished, I printed a few more sheets of diamonds to … Continue reading

Tiny Kaleidoscope Star Setting

Once I had nine of the little kaleidoscope stars made with the .50″/1″ star points, I decided to start playing with a setting idea. So I quickly printed some elongated hexagons and 1″ diamonds. For the trial I used some muslin, but think I’ll like it better with something different – perhaps a green or even a white on white – so I will be taking this apart. But I wanted to see if I actually liked this idea and I do. For a few days though, it’s being set aside.

Why? Because Springtime in Paris is very, very close to being finished. All but the last few blocks are done. Row 9 was added to the quilt last night and these are all that are left to stitch and row 10 will be done, ready to attach to the rest and then the top will be, for the most part, finished. And I am determined to try to finish it this week.

Spring has definitely arrived. The crab apple tree is covered in beautiful pink buds. In another day or two the scent of the blossoms will be wonderful.

I can’t believe how small Baxter seems in this photo. If there’s one thing he isn’t, it’s small. He’s easily twice the size of Jake.
