Friday Fabric Picks

For some reason, this group of fabrics is really calling to me.  Somehow a small square or round table mat that could be under a centrepiece keeps coming to mind along with a set of placemats.

This second group is one that I think I’d like to use for a small quilt, possibly of hexagons and stars.  I was actually hunting for my container full of hexagons, with no success, when I started looking at fabrics on Thursday evening.  I got an idea when I started playing with some of the layout pages in the new free Inklingo Hexagon Quilt Design Book which was released on Thursday.  Guess this means the coloured pencils will be in use again unless I become proficient in EQ overnight.  This weekend I am going to spend some time trying to get to the point I can do some things in EQ.  It sounds like it’s going to be an incredibly hot and humid weekend, so perhaps it’s a good time to attempt to learn it.

Thursday night, we were invited to go see Winnie.  She refuses to allow anyone to groom her and her fur mats terribly, so periodically the lion cut is the only solution.

Mr. Q.O. found this video of the lyre bird on YouTube.  It is really quite amazing to hear how well the bird imitates so many sounds — definitely worth a watch!

Along with trying to learn EQ this weekend, I plan to get the pieced blocks for the baby quilt finished so that it will be just a matter of stitching them together with the joining shapes.

On Thursday, Lester had some windowsill time.

A Smudge profile.

  2. I don’t know about Winnie, so I thought it was Lester at first! lol Poooor Winnie. Well, it has to be done. Barnes use to LOVE to be groomed. Euan does NOT. Your cats are gorgeous in today’s photos.
I have some fabrics in this color blue, that’s I’ve been eyeing also. YEs, that will be lovely Cathi! I can see a big vase of pink tulips in the center of it all! 🙂
I have seen this video! It’s amazing! At first, I thought it was a hoax, because it’s so unbelievable! It think it even did a chainsaw or something like this. I remember it strutting around as it was “singing”. Goodness, nature never ceases to amaze me! If it were on our island, it would be making tug boat and horn noises, horse whinnying, pig snorts, turkey calls…. lol

Still no hexies?!?! lol I imagine a little gnome sitting, sewing and a lovely hexie quilt appear very shortly for your bears…
These fabrics are gorgeous also. What an eye you have. I have to say that I’d have passed right by them Cathi. Honestly! You can “see the finished item” so well.

  5. I’m with Sandra — wish I could have even half as good an “eye” for putting colors together with pattern as you do.

Your city picture from yesterday also shows a good eye for color, I think. Love it that you post so many photos, thanks!

Lyrebirds are pretty amazing, they are also on one of our coins here.. you hear stories where they have been near industrial sites and they imitate the sound of the ‘works finished’ siren, causes all sorts of confusion… they are really really amazing birds, I’ve only seen one in the wild though….
I feel for poor winnie… our devil cats brother and mother hates being brushed and ends up with a ‘do’ like this once a year.. our cat LOVES being brushed, you cannot brush our cat too much, he falls asleep doing it..
I think you might have to knit Winnie a coat!
