One of the things that got done on the weekend was finishing the little quilt I’m calling Meandering Minds. It’s 8″ x 10″ and is destined for the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative. Hand pieced, machine quilted. I used the 2″ Drunkard’s Trail Inklingo collection to print the shapes on my fabrics. There is no way I could have done this quilt without Inklingo – the precise matching points Inklingo prints on the fabrics made it easy and such fun.
It looks so small on the wall with the larger pictures, so a bit of a close-up of it.
I used the Clover Wonder Clips when doing the binding on this. I’ve always liked stitching down the binding on a quilt but I really liked the fact that the thread doesn’t seem to want to catch on these clips, as it did on the clips I used to use.
I had saved a small piece from a Tuscany silk batt that was just perfect for this. I’m really curious about the Quilters Dream Orient batting made of bamboo, silk, cotton and Tencel. Has anyone used it? If you have, what did you think of it? I’m tempted to get a small one to try out.
All the photographs for the New York Beauty tutorial are done. Another thing on the list for the weekend accomplished. The third item, which was the red and white quilt, is not completed. It might be finished today. It’s going to be a while before this one gets quilted, so once I finish getting the borders on I’ve got to find a way to store it so that I don’t have to press it again and again.
Friday morning I was sitting at the computer when I noticed something out of the corner of my eye in the tree in front of our living room window. I said to Mr. Q.O. that there was something big and furry in the tree. He had a slightly different vantage point and could see the raccoon tail. I was fascinated watching the raccoon as it was there, moving only slightly as it slept through the day, and didn’t come down until it got dark. How did it get on the roof garden? I haven’t got a clue. But now we know what Baxter watches so intently out the window at night. Baxter did notice the raccoon in the tree and was watching it for quite some time Friday morning.
Today’s Baxtertoon is entitled “After the Storm”.
It’s still pretty warm here. Baxter knows how to stay cool – sprawl out on the couch.

What a beautiful mini-quilt. And lucky you to be able to see raccoons. Here apart from cats we can sometimes see squirrels.

Your little quilt has turned out beautifully! That sure looks like a raccoon to me – perhaps it’s come to visit with Baxter because he’s a coon too? Maine coon?

I also wonder how the coon got up to the garden! AMAZING! Gosh, I wonder what it shall eat… They love cat food. 🙂 Our dogs use to go nuts when they would come on our porch at night. I would imagine that Baxter can see it’s eyes at night, through the window. What a good coon cat. Living in the middle of the city.

What a nice small quilt! Very interesting how you placed the lines!
That raccoon was at my house last night, they are coming in droves now at 6 PM at night! They don’t even wait until dark anymore to attach the cat food dishes!
Watch your elevators for small raccoons in diguise heading for the roof gardens!
Oh, and I would have thought that in the Baxtertoon he would be wearing rose colored glasses, not purple!

Cathi, I discovered your blog having seen your picked ladies quilt on Pinterest. I went way back in your blog as you described the entire process from inception onwards.. And cryed when your cats died. I spent a few days reading your back blogs… And you totally inspire me! Hi Cathi–I have used the Quilter’s Dream Orient and LOVED it! I quilted it with my HandiQuilter but I’m sure quite sure it would be a breeze to hand quilt. It’s really soft and drapable. Right now I can’t even recall what quilt I used it in–we are in the process of getting the house ready to sell and everything is in chaos.
