Another Stormy Seas block did get done last night. This one makes me think of big frothy waves. When I started working with the extra pieces, I said I’d get at least two blocks of the Stormy Seas top done this week so I’m at least halfway there. I had forgotten just how much fun these blocks are to put together.
That one will join these 17 blocks as last seen on my makeshift design wall. I’m starting to have some different ideas about setting these blocks and may stop making blocks that use only 2 fabrics after the next two are completed and instead start using 3 or 4 batiks in each block. Once I have 20 of them done, I’ll make that decision.
Yesterday was yet another incredibly mild day for January. No matter what winter may throw at us now, it can’t possibly last long.
While Baxter doesn’t seem to mind having his photo taken, he doesn’t pose. Mr. Q.O. grabs a shot quickly, what he calls “shots from the hip”.
Storm at Sea is such a classic block, I just love it! Very cool Caribbean colors too! Yes, often times we shoot from the hip too when photographing the cats!

Boy, you’re really SAILING through that Storm of Sea quilt!
Baxter probably has to grow up a bit to understand that he needs to pose at the right times for the documentation of his life (as though he cares! 🙂 )!

I think that is a grea idea to end with blocks with more than 2 fabrics in threm. It will keep the eye moving around the quilt.

While I like the positive/negative idea, blocks with more than two colours in them would introduce even more motion into the quilt and really make it swirl!Baxter is doing his best to look regal in this pic.

It’s looking great, Cathi! I made a small quilt with this pattern and did what you are thinking to try. I thought it was successful — as you say, made it “swirl!” As it is now, it looks very Gulf of Mexico . . . calm and pleasant. Ahhh, I can feel my toes in the sand! Bax is super-handsome today! xxoo Patty & Bhu

I have always loved this block, and your fabrics are so gorgeous — absolutely love the colors and it reminds me so much of the ocean.
Baxter is looking so handsome these days — this is one of my favorite photos, and he does look like he is posing, even if Mr. Q had to act fast to catch it.
