While I”ve gotten started on the next block, which is going to be orange, I’ve not managed to get much sewing done.
In fact, this is about all there is to show so far – a little stack of pieces, waiting to be sewn together.
I’ve been busy working on what I think may be the groups of fabrics for another two orange flowers and choosing the purples for one more purple flower. Then I got to the pinks and got lost for hours, choosing fabrics that seemed just right for more pink flowers. I’ve not yet started choosing the fabrics for another two blue flowers so that’s next, but only after I finish this orange flower.
As of right now, I have this grouping set aside for a second orange flower.
And this group for a third. I think I’ve picked out the right background for one of those two groups and am still deciding on what I’ll use for the third.
I got sidetracked into doing this because I had been playing with a possible layout for the quilt in EQ. If I set the blocks on point, which is the way I’m leaning right now, and do a setting of 4 by 5 flowers it would be a nice lap quilt size. However, if I can’t stop choosing fabric groups and keep making more flowers, but don’t set them on point, I’ll have to come up with the perfect sashing for them.
Then I started pulling some yardage to see if I have anything that plays nicely as sashing with the blocks I’ve got done so far and I think I may have narrowed it down to two or three.
I think I may get all the shapes printed on the fabrics I’ve picked out for the other orange, purple and pink flowers after I finish this one that I’ve just started. That way I’ll just have everything ready to sew and won’t get sidetracked like this so often!

The cats both love this spot on the couch when the extra pillow is there for them. Jake had claimed possession of it early in the evening and had a nice sleep.
A few hours later, it was Baxter’s turn – but he wasn’t sleeping. He’s totally fascinated by emery boards and loves to bite them. Just seconds before I took this photo, he was looking around to see where the emery boards might be. The only reason I was able to get this was because Mr. Q.O. was holding an emery board over my head while I quickly took the photo.
I love orange, so I know I’m going to really love what you make with these fabrics!

I don’t often work with orange, but I knew I had to have some orange flowers in my garden. I’m finding I’m liking it more and more – guess I may have to work with orange more often!

Morning Cathi, orange is so bright and cheerful. That one batik with what looks like dots….. is gorgeous! !
Both those kitty pics are priceless.
I have the butterfly batik in blue
..
was up late last night scrubbing cucs to make French dill pickles this morning. Napa cabbages are almost ready to become kimchi. Peas are done for the yr.
Enjoy your day…… Orange!

That fabric with the dot effect isn’t a batik – it’s a print that works with the orange batiks so is going to be added to the mix.

The orange ones will be awesome! But they are all so neat to see how they turn out!
You should get those cats to help you with the fabrics instead of sleeping away the day! I think Baxter is just sharpening his teeth on the emery boards in case he has to use force to claim the couch pillow!

I’m surprised at how much I’m liking the orange as I normally don’t work with it very often – but I do know I’m going to really like the orange flowers that will be added to the garden. Baxter’s teeth don’t need sharpening!! Cathi

I think it is a good idea to have several combinations chosen and printed, ready to cut and sew. The orange combinations are intriguing.

With other projects, I’ve always prepared multiple blocks at once but for some reason with the Ribbon Flowers I’ve been doing it one by one, which has slowed me down,as has working with some of the batiks as a few of them have been very hard to hand piece. Orange isn’t a colour I work with often, but I knew I had to have some orange flowers in my garden.

Again, a wonderful selection of colours, this time orange! Tiger lillies, gladiolas, Indian paint brush, so many bright, beautiful flowers. Orange is a happy colour. Can’t wait to see the blocks.

When I started looking at flower colours seen in nature, I realized I had to include some orange flowers in my garden quilt. It’s not a colour I’ve worked with often in the past – that may change! Cathi

There are so many orange flowers that I think I could make far more than three for my garden, but I’m limiting it to three as I’m going to try for three of each of four colours. At least, that’s the plan right now.

Your orange batiks are tops!! And our cats love emery boards too. Hugh makes mine, he glues sandpaper, fine, and very fine on opposite sides of thin slats of wood, then cuts to shape, and even curves the ends!! I get a whole batch of about 20 at a time!!!

There had to be some orange flowers – once I started looking at flowers that could be found in a garden, I realized there had to be some orange ones! I wonder what it is about emery boards that cats so like – I’ve never had a cat who seems to be able to sense that I’ve got one out even if he’s in another room, but Baxter will come running from wherever he is the minute I get an emery board out.

I feel like I’m making very, very slow progress on this first orange flower – I’m still not finished it!! For reasons that will become apparent on my blog tomorrow. I’m surprised at how much I like working with orange – it’s a colour I rarely use.

I came here to give a little moral support for poor Orange, thinking it wouldn’t be very popular …turns out you gals love it, just like I do! And it makes for a wonderful contrast color too – go Orange!!

I’m actually surprised how much I like orange! It’s just not a colour I normally work with, so this has been quite an eye-opener for me. I know it’s going to be fabulous contrast for the purple flowers.
