Friday Quilt Planning

I pulled out a few more fabrics that I think might be fun to play with for another sunflower quilt.  Perhaps the purple in the fabric group may not work, but I think something a little offbeat needs to be added.  I’m thinking of a table runner done using the Pickle Dish collection.  For the fabrics I showed yesterday, I’m really leaning towards a summer double wedding ring quilt with the sunflowers in the centre of the rings.

It was yet another hot and humid day on Thursday.  For some reason, although this week is nowhere near as hot as last week, this week feels more draining.   Maybe it’s because it’s not cooling down much at night at all.  Even at 1:00 a.m. we have humidex readings of 31C (87F).  The weekend promises more of the same but I shall be chained to the sewing machine, other than a quick trip to Sew Sisters to find just the right binding fabric, and hopefully will have all the quilting done and the mostly finished quilt to show on Monday. I’m really hoping to have the quilting done and only the tacking down of the binding left by Sunday night.

Smudge was intently watching something Thursday night.

While Lester had a relaxing time on the windowsill Thursday afternoon.

  1. Great selection and did you say a trip to the quilt shop? That is always fun! Today they are saying it is to be hot here. I am actually looking forward to it!!

  2. It’s a little easier to cope with heat and humidity if you get a decent sleep – when the nights are hot as well as the days, there’s no respite is there? How are the kitties coping?
Interesting fabrics, if you have yellow then a little purple with it is usually a good thing!

  3. The purple will work. Purple is the complimentary color of yellow – they always look good together. Which one of the many Pickle Dish variations are you going to use?

Smudge looks particularly handsome in that picture.

  4. It would be mighty boring without the purple! Oh, maybe that was a little harsh. Let’s try again. It wouldn’t be very interesting without the purple, too matchy.

  5. Just a little purple is like the necessary bit of pepper in some dishes, when it lacks you’ll notice!! Hopefully temps will cool down soon. Here in Holland the temp is about 23 degr C at the moment but for next week they predict tropical days again! Have a nice and happy sewing weekend, hugs, Daniëlle

  6. Oh, Cathi absolutely include the purple. When selecting fabrics, if you use the color wheel as your guide, you can very seldom go wrong. And those were your first choices, right? Aren’t they always the right ones? *wink*

Isn’t this heat and humidity brutal? I’m soooooo ready for Fall!

  7. Great fabrics again. I do love sunflowers. Good thing you have a/c because with all that fur, your boys would be miserable without it. Love the pictures of them as always. Winona

  10. I’m jumping onto the purple wagon and say that it will really add the something special to the project. We are heating up again too. Our last cool down was scary as areas not very south of us had baseball size hail.

  11. I love your fabric choices Cathi! Your idea of a double wedding ring sounds amazing. I’ve always wanted to make one, and will some day. It’s probably my favorite quilt pattern. well, if I had to choose! lol
I think the purple and even a fall orange color would be pretty, but that’s just me.
So sorry for your heat. I know how bad it is here, but you don’t ever really get use to with your climate.
    Beautiful photos, as always.
I can’t wait to see your quilt finished and I think you should celebrate! Maybe go to the Spaghetti Factory and have a glass of wine!
