Quilt Planning

I have this group of fabrics that I love and that are out of my  normal comfort zone with fabric colours, but I can’t come up with an idea for them.  I keep thinking that something that has a fairly large central piece for the large sunflower print but then get bogged down in what?  Perhaps a different version of Pickle Dish?  Or maybe a small DWR quilt?

Letting my mind ponder that has helped while I continue with the quilt wrestling.  Today I will have a fairly long day of work, but as soon as that’s done I will be back at the machine quilting the Chintz Circles quilt yet again with a view to maybe, just maybe, getting it finished on Friday at some point.   I think a trip to Sew Sisters may be in order on Saturday to find just the right fabric for the binding.

Wednesday was another warm and humid day.  Our forecast seems like it’s nothing but a series of warm and humid days in the extended forecast.  This is definitely making up for the summer that wasn’t last year!

The cats were quite alert Wednesday night.  Smudge on the pink chair.

And Lester on the couch.

  1. Yummy yummy fabrics, I love them!! The large flower print would be fine for a border. Sew Sisters is a lovely shop, I’m sure you will find what you need for your binding there. The kitties are definitely alert!

  2. Lovely group of fabrics Cathi. Pickle Dish or DWR or any of the variations are the only ones that come to mind with large open spaces. Or a large hexagon – use the sunflowers in the center hex. How about that framed hexagon on the cover of your Japanese book?

  3. The sunflower and greenish fabrics are gorgeous…..maybe just a touch of burnt orange somewhere in the design? A fall wallhanging, with circles again! There are so many options in the dresden collection – Cannot wait to see the final the final chintz circles. I think a photo of Lester will be particularly handsome with the sunflower work as a backdrop 😉 Sandy
Your Aunt is going to be soooooo delighted with this gift.

  4. Very beautiful fabrics Cathi! Well, perhaps a medallion style quilt… Kind of like the one I’m working on now. It’s a great way to show off a toile or in this case the sunflowers in the centre. Then, you could do some pieced blocks to go around.
This will make such a gorgeous quilt for fall!
SOrry for your heat and humidity. I feel for you. Hope it is cooler very soon. HUGS!
Wish I were there to go to the fabric shop with you! What great FUN that would be!!!! 🙂

  5. My mind is a total blank for suggestions too. The large print would be great as a border but then cutting it into smaller bits would make interesting squares and trianges or even diamonds….

  6. I love, love, love those fabrics and they are outside my norm too. An idea would to use the great sunflower fabric as a border to blocks made from the others. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
