Little Pink Clamshells

Stitching clamshells together is something I find irresistible.  They are so easy to stitch using Inklingo to print the templates right on to the fabric — just lots of lovely continuous stitching.  I have a funny little story running through my mind about some pink clams making their way to the surface of the water and then on to the beach and this little quilt will go along with the story.

Wednesday was rather exciting.  We had an earthquake.  Very very unusual around here.  Mr. Q.O. really felt it and said it almost gave him a feeling of motion sickness.  I sort of felt something, but really didn’t give it a second thought.  We had one about 20 years ago and that one I felt much more than this.  The cat I had then, Max, basically slunk out of the room on his tummy and hid under the bed about 2 minutes before that one hit.  But Smudge and Lester this time?

Lester slept through it completely.  Didn’t twitch a whisker.

Smudge also missed the whole thing.

  1. My hubby told me about the earthquake last night and said it could be felt all the way here in CT. I asked what time it had happened and I realized I was quilting a customer quilt at the time, but didn’t feel a thing. Funny how your cat had reacted. They say that animals can sense these things. Well, all animals except Smudge and Lester!

  2. I remember an earthquake in the early 70s, early in the morning – I woke up, thought it was blasting being done at the local quarry, turned over and went back to sleep! I don’t remember if my cat reacted, looks as though your kitties didn’t.

  3. Oooo pretty, love how the pick just kinda shows up :0) Earthquakes can be scary, we would have a doozie every once in a while when I lived in Seattle.

  4. I thought of you when I picked up that bit of news. Interesting the cats continued to crash through that. Your clamshell work is also interesting. What might we be creating with the placement of these pinks? It looks suspiciously like a design. I missed something, ha?

  5. Your clamshells are lovely. I see many other bloggers doing these. BTW, I am loving Inklingo!

When I lived in Alaska we had a rather rumbly earthquake experience and it frightened me quite a bit. Here in Michigan, we don’t seem to feel them.

    Enjoy your stitching!

  6. Apparently my husband felt the quake here in Windsor. We were driving at the time and he asked me if I was shaking my foot like I usually do but I wasn’t. He said the van was really shaking and I thought nothing of it. Then we got a text from our youngest son about the quake and he realized that’s what he felt. Most people here in Windsor ON didn’t feel anything and if they did, they didn’t give it a second thought. I was watching the news and there were several earthquakes around the world in the last few days all registering around 5.5 on the Reichter scale. I think that’s strange but we were wondering if these have to do with all the oil leaking in the Gulf of Mexico. That has to be under extreme pressure to be still spewing gallons of crude. Makes you wonder what we are doing to the earth.

  7. …. and over here in Scarborough, we didn’t feel a thing. I was in the dining room changing the flowers in the vase and the pool is just steps away. No sloshing of the pool water, nothing.

  8. Wow, I didn’t think there were Earthquakes in eastern Canada?! What do I know!! Glad there wasn’t any damage. Come to think of it, we actually had one here in Denmark a few years back! That is almost unheard of!
    Your cats are so cute!!

  9. Eeeee – scary. I have only experience earthquake once in my life, and it was a very very mild one.

Now, Cathi – you can’t keep tempting us with the mere mention of the story, and not actually tell us the story!! 😉 I love those fabrics, by the way.

  10. I think many people didn’t feel the quake because they were on the first floor or basement of their homes. Out here in Whitby, I felt it just fine, thank you!

And that quake you mentioned was actually 22 years ago – the evening of the first official date I had with my husband-to-be.

Those last two facts are totally unrelated. LOL

  11. Oh, I missed the earthquake!! But, a near miss of a tornado in Shipshewana was just a good. Lots of trees on the ground and many spent the night in the basement.

    Your clamshells are looking good.
