Spring Circles Again

One more row has now been added.  Right now it’s 45 x 54.  I was thinking of leaving it this size as my aunt is a very small lady, but looking at it I have decided to add two more rows so that it will end up as 54 x 63.  I think that will make it a good size for her.  I’ve already got the first block of the next row finished and plan to do nothing but these blocks this week and next until it is finished.  By then, the batting I’ve ordered should be in and then I’ll be ready to quilt it.

I was actually starting to print the fabrics to make blocks for the Spring Circles quilt for us, thinking this was large enough.  So now I have one block of our quilt done as well.

The gardeners descended on Saturday morning and by noon all the flowers were planted.  Now it’s wonderful to look out and see the colour.  As soon as it’s a bit less windy, we’ll get some photographs of the flowers.  We have had some absolutely fabulously hot and humid days over the past week.  A real lovely taste of summer weather.  It’s supposed to be quite hot today and Tuesday and then nothing but rain for a few days, which I know we need.

Taking the week off was a smart thing for me to do.  The difference it made as far as my hands go is quite evident.  So I think I learned a lesson — to back away from things that aggravate my hands when they flare up rather than try to tough it out, which is my first inclination.  I hate giving in to the stupid flare-ups, but …

Lester was wanting to see the keyboard at my desk, I think.  He was absolutely determined to find a way over.  He was sitting on the windowsill with his two front paws on my desk.

Smudge, on the other hand, was cuddled up with his favourite teddy bear.  We’re pretty convinced he has a favourite.

  1. You know, Cathi, pink has always been my least favorite color, and I still don’t like it, but you always manage to make it look good! This top is coming out great. I like the variety of the fabrics and the way they flow.

  3. Cathi, that is so pretty! Are you going to make another for yourself after you give this one away? You’re right, much as we don’t like to stop doing what we enjoy – sometimes it is the best thing to do. Love the pics of the boys!

  5. Your quilt looks wonderful! …. actually I think the look on Lester’s face is “Don’t overdo it!”…He might be protecting those hands LOL- cats are so comforting aren’t they? and yet, they are bundles of id at the same time! Glad your hands are better, fondly, Sandy

  6. Your aunt is going to love this quilt–it’s beautiful. Lester looks ready to write a post. Wonder what he wanted to say. Smudge reminds me of my Edgar Poe, they both look like they are up to something even when they are sleeping 🙂

  7. It’s perfect! Your aunt will adore it, and the extra time/work for a few more blocks will assure a bit more “tuck in” area. Lovely! Clever cats…computer

  10. This quilt is destined to be a real stunner! I just love your color choices and fabrics. It is so feminine! Your aunt will treasure it I’m sure.

I have been doing some hand piecing but have not tried the Ink-lingo system. It is on my “to do” list but this quilt makes me really tempted.

  11. Such a beautiful quilt!~I adore some of the florals, especially the top left one and and then the ones w/some direction to them seeing how you cut them. Very beautiful and a LOT of work! I have not tried the Ink-lingo system either. I have only used the freezer paper that you buy in sheets for your copier and then but out and use on your fabrics. Hope your hands are better soon. Did I mention the gloves you buy to help give you support? they work for me. Sorry to repeat if I have…

  12. This quilt is just awesome!! great thought went into the details of these blocks to make sure that the background matches between blocks! I love it and I know your aunt would too..
I would not put a boarder on this the blocks themselves are wonderful the way they are!!

  13. I’ve been following this quilt from day one – since Alabama Beauty is next on my to do list. It’s coming along beautifully – I LOVE the secondary circles formed by the different backgrounds. It will be even better a bit bigger. Your aunt is a lucky lady – she will cherish it for years to come.

How are you going to quilt it?
