My cousin responded to my question regarding my aunt’s favourite colours, saying that they are pinks, rose-coloured pinks rather than baby pinks, and greens. Now I’m trying to decide what to do. I did a rough calculation on the weekend and I think it will take approximately 7 or 8 weeks just to piece the Summer Picnic Dish top, which would only leave me 2 weeks to get it quilted and bound. There is very little wiggle room in that timing. Could the pansy floral be considered anything close to a pastel rose colour?
I’ve been thinking about it most of the weekend and, as I see it, I have 3 choices at this point although there’s a fourth idea that I will look at more later today. The three choices? The Summer Picnic Dish:
Second idea? Adding a few more rows around this first quadrant of the Spring Circles and making that a lap quilt for my aunt. Not all pinks and greens but I think the overall feel of it is along those lines:
The third choice is to add another 12 or 13 of the Pink Ice blocks and turn that into a lap quilt. Not sure where the green would come in, although I suppose I could add two borders — one in a pretty green and then a pink. These are very quick blocks to make, and I could easily have them done within a few weeks.
Or I could add a very thin mint green sashing around the blocks.
My fourth idea? I’m playing with the idea of a Winding Ways top done in a pink fabric that almost reads as a solid and a very pale small sprig green with tiny pink buds on a creamy white fabric. I will get those fabrics out today and have a look at them to see if they work together or not.
It was a very cold and incredibly windy weekend. There was damage done in areas of the city from the wind and we had wind chills of -3C. It was warmer in March than it is now.
Lester spent a bit of time on the windowsill, but not much. I think nice warm kitty beds were much more enticing this weekend.
Smudge was — well, being Smudge.

Oh Cathi – I am relieved not to be making that choice…I do love that Pickle dish though

All the choices are great. However, I think that I might shy away from the last one only because that means you have to begin something new. The 3rd one seems to be the most logical since you have so many blocks completed. I like the idea of green sashing. The weather here was much like yours this weekend, really cold and windy. Back to wearing sweaters.

Well since you have a time limit on getting this project done, I would go with option #3 and put green sashing one it. If it were for me I’d make you finish the Summer Quilt LOL.

I agree with crispy. finish the stars and add some green. You could even be very avante garde and add some green stars in the last two blocks:)

I love them all…who doesn’t?? I think it would be less wear and tear on your nervous system if you go with the stars- which are beautiful- and the green sashing as suggested- you will have plenty of time to get it done! (I am a famous last minute Annie, and it is exhausting)
Just cannot get enough of Smudge and Lester 😉 Sandy
PS Do you have an old pretty hankie for the label on the back….just a thought.

My choice is your beautiful ice blocks – I just love those – always have! I think if you played a little with some light green (pastel) fabrics as sashing, it could be just perfect! It will be fun to see what you finally decide 🙂

Yep, the Ice Blocks with sashing. It was freezing here on the weekend too. Had to turn the heat back on!

Pink Ice blocks with a sashing of a pale pink and green print or all green delicate print.

I would opt for #3 since you already have so many done. You don’t want to rush through a special gift like that… you would probably want to enjoy the process of making the quilt, and think of the moments you have had with your aunt while you are piecing etc.

I hesitate to add another opinion to the mix…but #3 might be closer to done…if you opted to set the blocks on point? A lovely print in your aunts favorite color(s) as a filler block??? The summer picnic dish is so sweet, you’d hate to rush it…or not allow it to talk to you slowly and turn into something wonderful!
Keep them in stitches!

They are all beautiful Cathi, but I tend to agree with most of the above comments & go with the pink ice blocks with green sashing, then it would be less of a rush for you. Which ever you choose, your aunt will love it 🙂

Oh friend, wow! What a choice. Definitely no on the Summer Picnic Dish. Wayyy too much pressure to get that done and I’m enjoying this coming together. Definitely possible with the Alabama Beauty blocks but then again, I’m really enjoying the designing possiblities still open with that and with a date looming I fear that may shift the flow. Winding Ways would be a cinch for you to pull together but maybe not so much with a date looming so, I’m with the Quilt Obsession Gal Gang. Pink Ice. Hope this helps when I add my 40 cents.

Cathi, I think that she would love ANYTHING made by you and the Pickle Dish blocks are so close. I think you’re stressing waaaay too much. Trust your first instinct. It’ll be the right one

I love all three and they are going to be beautiful, but to make life as stress free as possible, for you, I would go with #2 or #3.

Hi Cathie…Of course anything made by you would be loved!…My vote is for the Spring Circles!…It does have such beautiful overall colors of pink and green…Your use of these fabrics give a soft, romantic look and has an old world feel, yet keeps a modern twist, that I think your aunt might appreciate…..Who could possibly resist snuggling under it?…Lester and Smudge are lovely as always…Blessings..Annie

Hi Cathie, Thanks for visiting my blog.
Difficult to choose. I like them all, and I bet your Aunt will too. Because she knows it’s made with the heart and lots of love.
The second and third are the one’s I will go for.

Cathi, these are all so GORGEOUS! I love your quilts! And I know she will be thrilled with whatever choice you make, but doing the math was a good idea… far too short of time for the pickle dish. I’m so enjoying following your progress with all of these.
