Three Quilts in a Box

Decorative boxes are perfect containers for the pieces for quilt blocks. In this box I have glassine envelopes, each of which contains the pieces for a number of blocks, one block or a portion of one block of the Pink Ice, Harpischord and Patchwork of the Crosses quilts.

This envelope contains all the pieces to make 4 of the Harpischord Quilt blocks.

This one has all but the white squares for a Pink Ice block.

And this one contains a number of the purple squares for the Patchwork of the Crosses blocks.

I learned about using glassine envelopes to store block pieces when I was making my Quilted Diamonds 2 quilt. Having all the pieces for a block in one spot make it so easy to just pick out an envelope and start stitching.

Smudge on the windowsill again. The fall is his favourite time to be on the windowsill.

And Lester doing a Morris impression!

  1. Great organizing tip, Cathi. Since I just finished reorganizing my studio, I'm now doing the fine tuning of organizing things within my containers. I was using zip lock baggies for my smaller pieces but these envelopes could help as well. I think I feel the need for a trip to Staples coming on.Great idea and thanks.

  2. You are very organized Cathi LOL. Prepping blocks is my least favorite part of quilting so I never do more than one block at a time. Of course with you Linkgo program, prepping is a lot less tedious :o)Crispy

  3. I've only seen those envelopes used for stamps, didn't even know the name for them! Where do you get them? Great idea! Keep control of projects is always difficult, but it's so frustrating when they are all over the place.

  4. Love your three quilts in a box! Your Quilted Diamonds 2 quilt is beautiful. I don't remember seeing it before. Both books are on my shelf and one day I hope to make a diamond quilt. My plan was to work on Dear Jane and Quilted Diamonds at the same time, but I reconsidered, thinking it would be too much at one time.

  5. I previously read about using glassine envelopes from Quilted Diamonds 2. I didn't have luck finding them, but found vellum envelopes at a local craft shop (JoAnns). I agree it works great to keep pieces organized. I'd still like to find a source for glassine envelopes. Any ideas?… that don't require traveling to Toronto? lol 🙂
