Up until about 15 minutes ago, this was the view looking towards the west from our living room.
Ten minutes ago, this happened:
There is something unbearably sad about a beautiful tree being cut down. I understand there was root disease and they had to have it removed but the sound when the tree fell was indescribable. Up until the tree removal people arrived, the birds had been singing and it was a wonderfully peaceful Saturday morning. Now? Now, there are no birds singing.

This is the view looking towards the west from our living room now. It’s going to take some getting used to. One of the best things about this apartment was the fact we had trees in front of the windows which, in the spring, summer and most of the fall, hid the fact we are right in the middle of the concrete jungle of downtown.

Oh, Cathi, that's so hard to watch! But of course you have to cut a diseased tree before it falls and hurts someone or something. On the up side, 3 years ago we had to have all the trees in our yard cut — an incurable disease that every tree of that type in town has. It took awhile, but now it looks great back there again. The people who care for your rooftop garden do such a great job, I'm sure they'll work on this.

It's so sad to see trees being cut down – even when it's necessary. It seems to me sometimes that we're making our environment more artificial than real, and the loss of each tree only compounds that. Hopefully they'll plant at least one to replace it.

Oh how sad. I hope another tree is planted in its place.

Maybe they will plant a new tree in its place? I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I hate to see big trees come down too. I hope the birds come back and find a new place to hang out. I wonder if your cats noticed the different view.

Farewell to your tree and view or should I say lack of view?I am sure there will be a new tree in it's place soon but it will take years to get it as large as before.

How terrible. I love trees and it's always sad when one has to be cut down. hopefully they'll plant a new one and in a year or so it'll grow into the beautiful tree that it replaceslove and hugs Gina xxx

I hate to lose a tree that has taken years to grow. It sure was much nicer to look at than that building.

I do hate to see trees cut down. I still miss the trees and the birds that go with from the last place I lived.

How sad. I lost a large pine tree a couple of winters back during high winds. Now only one tree protects my shade garden. I thought I would have to change my shade garden to a sun garden, but much to my surprise, my garden is thriving! The best it has ever been. The rain now gets to it and it is just beautiful. It happened for a reason. Maybe something good will come of the removal of your tree.

That is so incredibly sad. Will they plant another tree in the place of this one. I am afraid I'd insist they do. Your view has totally changed. Even the light will have changed the way it hits the buildings and everything. 😦
