Pink Ice Block #15

… is now finished. Ten more blocks to go and then I’ll have enough for the lap quilt I have in mind.

The back, after pressing.

Thursday was a very busy day for the kitties on the windowsill. The gardener was here early in the morning with the leaf blower so they had to watch that. Then it got a bit breezy in the afternoon and leaves were falling off the branches at a rapid pace. Lester’s eyes got enormous every time a few leaves would fly by.

Smudge can’t just sit and watch. He has to be pacing back and forth along the window and sometimes batting at the window. He had to jump into a chair beside the window and have a bit of a rest at one point. It’s hard to get a good shot of him on the windowsill as he’s usually in motion.

Another Pink Ice Block Started

One of the envelopes in the box I showed yesterday contained all the pieces for a Pink Ice block, so I got that started.

I finger press the blocks as I stitch so, although it’s not been pressed yet, you can see that when I do it will be a quick process. It takes only seconds to finger press as I go, and saves a lot of time at the ironing board.

Pink Ice

The design floor was put to good use again Wednesday night as I laid out the pink and white snow crystal blocks. Pink Ice is the name that I’ve decided on for this quilt. The blocks finish at 9″ and I want to use some sort of sashing but now, seeing it laid out, I’m really wondering what will work. I want to keep this as a two-colour quilt so the sashing would have to be some sort of pink. I have a plan for a border now too which will include half stars.

The fabric the blocks are lying on is a pink and white tiny print. It clearly doesn’t work for the sashing. Maybe a pink stripe of some form or a pink batik that has a lot of different shades of pink in it?

Lester sometimes looks, to me, as though he’s a very wise kitty. Then, of course, he does something totally goofy like chewing on his ruff.

Snow Crystal Block #14 and Inklingo Star

Block 14 is done. The blocks finish at 9″. All the pink diamonds and the majority of the white squares and triangles are printed and cut for the remaining 16 blocks. The block really is fun to put together and, if I were to concentrate solely on these, I could have them done within a month. But we all know that won’t happen!!

The back:

Two of the star blocks made with shapes from the Inklingo tumbler collection. I have more done but they didn’t make it into this picture. Maybe after the weekend. This will be a teddy bear quilt. With any luck I’ll get the top together by weekend’s end. And a few more of the hexagon rosettes. Maybe a couple more of the Harpsichord Quilt blocks and at least one more POTC block. Hmm — sounds like a lot of stitching may be going on.

Why do I think I’ll get all this stitching done this weekend? It’s our Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend. Happy Thanksgiving! I’ll be posting a quilt for the Blogger’s Quilt Festival, either later today or sometime on the weekend. It will be fun to see all the quilts that are entered this time. The spring quilt festival was wonderful.

Smudge getting in some practice on relaxing so he’s ready for a long weekend. Look at his front paws!!

And Lester looking rather pensive. Not much is happening out on the roof garden for him right now. But just wait till the leaves start falling and then flying in the air — then there will be great excitement!

Snow Crystal Block in Progress

The pieces for the remaining Snow Crystal blocks are all cut and ready to piece so Thursday night I decided to work on one. Once the centre star is done, and the 4 partial stars, it’s just lots of lovely continuous stitching to join everything together into a block.

Although you can’t really tell it from this photo, some of the leaves on the trees are turning yellow and orange and falling. If there’s any breeze at all, leaves fly by the window. Then Smudge takes up residence on the windowsill to try to catch those leaves as they fly by.

Lester also has to keep an eye out for those leaves.

Snow Crystal Block #12

The pink and white 9″ snow crystal blocks are part of the rotation. I thought there were 13 blocks done, but there were only 11 so this is the twelfth. I have the pieces printed and cut out for another 13 blocks so I’m thinking a 25-block set and then I’ll have my pink and white quilt.

The back:

And this is what I’m thinking I’ll use for the sashing. Of course, that may change once all the blocks are done and I lay them out. It may need something stronger or even perhaps just a white or maybe a pink and white stripe.

Kaaren at The Painted Quilt has started a new feature — First Friday Freebie. The first one is a fabulous fall stitchery wall hanging or mini quilt. There’s a button you can grab for your blog as well.

Snow Crystal Blocks Revisited

The snow crystal blocks which will eventually be the pink and white quilt I’ve wanted to make are back in the line-up of things to work on. Or, rather, they will be back when my wrists get better.

I thought my wrists were better, but by Monday night knew I was wrong. I can’t even pick up a glass of water at this point without pain. I did a bit of ironing and rotary cutting on Friday. Guess I should have waited longer. Edited to add: I am going to take a few days off from blogging and give the wrist a real rest.

No Snow but a Snow Crystal

After all that snow we had before Christmas, we had a few mild days with a lot of rain and there is no snow left. It was quite lovely to have a white Christmas, which is somewhat unusual for us now, but I’d rather not get any more snow this winter!

In honour of no snow, I made another Snow Crystal. There are now 13 of these blocks done. They finish at 9″. I’m debating just how many to make. There are all the bits and pieces printed and cut out to make another 12 blocks. How many more after that? Who knows! I may make two pink and white Snow Crystal quilts.

Lester appears lost in thought — or perhaps about to pounce on a toy.

Smudge very intently staring at something out on the roof garden. We have seen a squirrel the last couple of days, so I’m thinking he may have been squirrel watching.

Snow Crystals 10 & 11

It’s getting close — having 12 of these blocks done, that is. I’m not sure but think when there are 16 of them done I’ll start playing with layouts. The current plan is to make 2 lap quilts of pink and white Snow Crystal blocks, but that plan may well change.

This is block 10 done, front and back:

And this is block 11. I love this pink fabric but it is unbelievably difficult to needle. Went through 3 needles just piecing this. Don’t think I’ll use this fabric for hand piecing again — at least, not with this many pieces of it in a block.

It was a cold weekend and we had a bit of snow. Smudge doesn’t care — he just sprawls somewhere and has a nap.

Pink, Pink, Pink

Another snow crystal block has been started. I have the 4 partial corner stars for the block done so, with any luck, I’ll have this block finished tomorrow. That will be 12 blocks done for this quilt. Now to decide how big it’s going to be. I have a feeling it’s going to end up larger than I anticipated — or that I’ll make two. Maybe two lap quilts with different settings. And maybe one with some black sashing.

A quilting friend (no-blog friend) and I are exchanging cuts of pinks to print our diamonds on for these blocks. These are the pinks I received from her. Not one duplication!! This is so much fun!!

Smudge really knows how to relax. It’s the front paws that get me — and he’s sound asleep in this shot.

Another shot of Lester when his ruff had been very recently combed. Give it 2 or 3 minutes and he has it all messy again, so every picture like this we manage to get I treasure!!
