Basket Quilt Planning

Lots has been going on, but not a lot to show yet.

Remember this little quilt top? It has really inspired me to make a larger quilt with the little 3″ basket blocks. In ’30s fabrics again, but using a different setting. The whole quilt is planned in my mind. I thought I was done making quilts in ’30s fabrics, but it seems not.

So out came the ’30s fabrics scraps I had in a container and I came up with these. These will be a great start to the little quilt I’ve got planned and I’ll add to them bit by bit. Because I know what size I need to print the shapes, I was able to tell which scraps were even too tiny to print for the little 3″ baskets.

And as I’m getting very close to being finished setting the butterfly kaleidoscope stars with their surrounding diamonds it won’t be long before I am printing the shapes for those wonderfully tiny baskets. There are at least 18 more of the butterfly kaleidoscope stars done now that I haven’t shown yet on the blog and 6 or 7 left to do. Then I can start playing with the layout. And that’s the part I’m really looking forward to now.

What else? Well, I’m working on a tutorial on a stitching sequence of Patchwork of the Crosses blocks that I’ve found makes them really quick to stitch.

And yesterday I got the quilting done on the baby quilt. Make that most of the quilting. I have just a bit left to do, then the binding and then figure out a label design for it. A photo of it as soon as it’s finished.

This is a common sight these days. In fact, as I type this, Jake is sound asleep on the lower tier, as is Baxter on the top tier. Mr. Q.O. captioned this one, “Mine. Make no mistake about it!”
