… is what this is feeling like although Chintz Circles is almost finished. Almost. I think I’ve said that every day for the past 3 days. But now I can truly see that there’s no more than an hour of quilting left and then the binding which I will hopefully get done tonight. We went to Sew Sisters on Saturday and after looking at a number of fabrics, I chose the Rouenneries print for the binding. I think it will frame the quilt perfectly and it goes nicely with the backing.
I’m pleased with how the machine quilting looks and the interlocking circles that show up. Hopefully I’ll have some pictures to show tomorrow. The silk batt turned out to be the best possible choice — it is so much easier to manoeuvre and gives a little stitch definition. The Pfaff IDT has made doing the circles much easier than I anticipated. That said, how on earth anyone quilts a large quilt on a home machine is beyond me. After an hour or so of fabric wrestling, my shoulders and arms ache — and this is just a lap quilt.
While we were at Sew Sisters I found a fabulous white on white that isn’t heavily painted on. So some of that had to come home with me. I’m always on the hunt for a good white on white as I love using white in my quilts but have learned that anything with a heavily painted-on design causes nothing but trouble as it’s so hard to needle. Oh, how I wish the manufacturers would produce some white on white prints that had the design woven in rather than painted on.
It was a hot and humid weekend and promises to be a hot and humid week. Sounds like we’ll be back into the really high humidex readings towards the end of the week.
The cats had some windowsill time on the weekend. First Lester.
Then Smudge — although he looks a bit cranky in this shot.

Cathi….I agree with you on the white on white…I love it but it can be so hard to needle and some turn to a yellow on white. Can’t wiat to see the quilt finished, I know it will be beautiful. Have a great week.

Perfect fabric for the binding. How hard can it be to make a woven white on white? I am always afraid that painted on stuff is going to rub off over time or as Barbara said – turn yellow.

Yup, my problem with the wow too.. it turns yellow, may as well have started with a cream 😉
Love the pink fabric 😉 and the kitties ;))
Smudge has a similar expression as my Chichi… she thinks she’s a cat.. must post pictures…
Phew! so glad we don’t get your weather. Ours is bad enough at 70 and muggy… I’m melting.. such a wuss eh?

What a great choice for the binding! I don’t think Smudge looks cranky, I think he looks thoughtful. I screw up my eyes just like that when I’m thinking……no wonder I have a few wrinkles……can’t see Smudge’s wrinkles!

Lovely pink fabric! Can’t wait to see the Chintz Circles again…just so delightful! Kitties appear to be feeling the heat…isn’t this muggy/stormy/hot weather a challenge? I’d sit inside and thrill to sew…but the twins find it so, so boring! 😉

Did you get a free rubber duck at Sew Sisters?!?! 🙂
Was just looking at their site, very nice shop.
I’m so happy for you Cathi!!!!! Reaching the finish line! Love the binding fabric. I have not purchased any Rouenneries and need to remedy this before I can’t get any. Lovely photos of your cats again! Especially w/the lace curtains… XO

That is why I hand quilt my big quilts. Can’t see spending the money on a longarm since I don’t have a business. But it is quite a lot of work getting a quilt that is bigger than twin under the machine. I’ve done as big as queen and it was just one big fight!
Your fabric you are using for the binding is quite lovely!

Perfect fabric for the binding. Love the white on white. Asian fabric is also hard to needle, as I have discovered with my clamshells. Must be the gold.

I haven’t been to Sew Sisters in ages, as I don’t have the money to spend at the moment, and there is NO WAY you can leave that store without spending a few ($100) dollars.

I marvel at large quilts quilted on domestic machines too. My arms ache just thinking about it all!! I can’t wait for Morty to get mature, & less skittish about being patted!
He does like company though, & spends quite a bit of time just being ‘around’ us.

Cathi,
the Chintz circles binding suits it very well and I hope the recipient loves it and appreciates the work you have put into it. The boys are looking well, glad to see they are coping with the start of your summer. It’s well and truely winter here and our biggest sook (Spud) is spending time between us on the bed at night, as if he doesn’t have enough fur to keep him warm!
White on white is always difficult hope this one works out it looks nice.

The kitties look like they have their thinner summer coats. Do they shed a lot? I agree, I don’t know why it’s so hard to find a good white-on-white that doesn’t look too painted on.
