A sneak peek of the quilting I’m doing on Chitnz Circles. The fabric wrestling, aka quilting by machine, will result in interlocking circles following the shapes in the blocks. I haven’t done a lot of machine quilting, or machine stitching for that matter, but I’m relatively pleased with how this is turning out. Wrestling with a quilt that has a silk batt is a lot easier than wrestling with one with a cotton batt. The difference is quite evident. I’m not finding it anywhere near as hard on my hands as I have when I’ve machine quilted a quilt with a cotton batt. What’s taking forever is the burying of the threads. There is some continuous stitching I can do but not a huge amount, which results in a lot of threads to bury.
It’s not going anywhere near as quickly as I had hoped, but I feel like a fair amount was accomplished Monday night. If I can devote 2 or 3 hours every evening this week, I should be able to finish it by the end of the week. Then it will be a matter of figuring out what fabric to use for binding. That has me completely perplexed at the moment. There are so many different fabrics on the outer edges of the quilt that choosing a fabric for the binding may be a bit more challenging than I had anticipated.
As well as the clematis (thank you everyone for identifying that) shown yesterday, Mr. Q.O. got this shot of a part of our friend’s garden.
Neither cat was very active on Monday. Lester slept on the pink loveseat.
While Smudge was having a snooze on the pink chair.

The quilting is wonderful Cathi!! It is making wonderful movement in the quilt :0)

So glad you showed the quilting! It looks fantastic. I think that doing it little by little definitely helps to lower the frustration level if it gets too high. Hmmm…. my kitties slept a ton yesterday too.

Good going with your quilting Cathi 🙂 It’s looking great! I don’t envy you that part of the quilting it’s not my favourite bit of it. Watch you don’t over do it and hurt your neck… ask me how I found that one out 🙂
Don’t the kitties look like butter wouldn’t melt when they are asleep… 🙂 soooo cute..a bit like my bunnies;)

Hmmm, never worked with silk batting before.
Glad to read the name of that flower–I need some of those in my yard, for sure. Maybe next summer.

Quilt wrestling. Love it. It will be worth the effort. Beautiful.

Do you really think your aunt would mind if you backstitched instead of burying threads? On those fabrics you would barely see the backstithing. I would have ditch quilted it and then it would have been a continuous line design. But maybe that’s because I don’t have as much patience as you, LOL.
those kitties are so sweet when they are sleeping.

Oh that is just beautiful. There are so many wonderful colors in there that you could use just about anything for a binding. Are you going with a solid or print for the binding? A darker one could make everything else stand out even more. Then there is one that makes it even all the way around. Just thoughts 🙂

This quilt is looking gorgeous Cathi, I see what you mean about choosing a binding, so many colours in the quilt. I would tend to agree with Sue & use a darker one to make all the other colours pop. The kitties look so chilled, adorable! We have just welcomed one to our home this weekend & she’s settling in nicely. Enjoy your week!

It’s been a treat to watch this quilt come together. Love how the quilting enhances the circular pattern. Perhaps a pieced binding (using some or all of the fabrics in the quilt) might work … or a solid pink? Just a few thoughts.

Burying the threads is the most tedious part of quilting – I try to do mine as I go along so there isn’t a whole heap to do at the end. Slows the quilting down a bit but when that’s finished, it’s all finished! Nice to see the kitties doing what cats do best – conserving their energy.

Silk batting! That sounds divine! Your quilt is looking fanastic – so pretty. Perhaps you could use scraps from the quilt top for the binding?
Your cats look so comfortable curled up sleeping. I guess it is hot there, our are curled up because it is cold here.
