Pink Ice Blocks 26 & 27

Two more done, block 28 about half done and two full ones left to go.  But nothing else is getting done this week other than the quilting on Chintz Circles.  I realized on the weekend that I didn’t have enough time to hand quilt it, so removed the hand quilting I’d done and sorted out how I’d machine quilt it remembering, of course, that my machine skills are not great, and started on it Sunday night.  The quilting will be intersecting circles to emphasize the circles created by the design.  I got enough done Sunday night to realize I like how it’s turning out, so now it’s simply a matter of sitting at the machine and getting it done.

The back of one of the two completed Pink ice blocks.

Mr. Q.O. took this photo of a flower in a friend’s garden.  I haven’t got a clue what it is, but I love the colour.

We had a couple of days of much less humidity, although it was still quite warm.  They say the heat and humidity builds up again starting today and by midweek it sounds like we’ll be back to the extremely high heat and humidity.

Lester took advantage of the nicer temperatures and spent some time looking out the window.

As did Smudge.

  1. Oh you really do need to show a sneak peek of your Chintz Circles. I bet it is looking really nice! The pink ice blocks are great. Now as far as the flower, it looks like it might be a Clematis.

  2. I thought perhaps clematis too. Those Pink Ice blocks are looking rather lovely, aren’t they? It will be a very pretty quilt when it’s done. Pleased to hear it’s a little cooler for the kitties (and the people)!

  3. Hi Cathi,
Your blocks are just so gorgeous. I really, really like that pattern.
My machine quilting skills aren’t the best either and that is why I like to hand quilt:/

I am going to agree with the others, that the purple flower is a clematis. Looks like it’s on a vine with some others, so I do believe that’s what it is.

  4. Those Pink Ice blocks are just darling, as always! My QO sure does find some nice photo subjects…wouldn’t you love those flower colors in fabric? Glad kitties are enjoying the cooler temps…they both look quite interested in things stirring outside!

  5. The pink ice blocks are so pretty! I agree with other commenters that those lovely flowers are probably clematis. I’d love to grow one in the back yard, but I can’t seem to find a spot where they will survive.

I also would like to see some photos of the quilting on Chintz Circles. Machine quilting is something I have never really mastered, but I keep trying. It’s nice to see what others come up with for quilting designs, as I can never seem to find inspiration for that part of the quilt.

  7. Is this the 6″ Le Moyne Star Cathi or the smaller free one. I love the way you’ve arranged them with the little squares and the center star.

I’ve been wanting to make a black and white quilt and I can see this in black/white print stars and white/black print backgrounds and vice versa – with a bright hand dye/subtle batik for the star in the center.

  8. Your Pink Ice blocks are wonderful. I agree, the pretty flower is Clematis. My grandpa loved these and always had one growing on a trellis. The boys are looking great as always. Just love seeing pictures of them. Winona

  9. Oh Cathi, how I wish I could offer to quilt your Chintz Circles for you. The mail here would throw it all of I’m afraid… Otherwise, I’d say send it on! I’d do it for you in a minute to help you out. Just take your time and try not to stress about it. Perhaps set a timer? I thought of this today, as I was appliqueing by machine. Otherwise, I can go too long and get frustrated.
Your blocks are beautiful and goodness those cats are so handsome!
