After a few weeks of no flowers to add to the hexagon garden, this time I made four. The two on the bottom were made with .75″ hexagons, the top right with .50″ hexagons and the top left with .25″ hexagons. I’m now thinking I may make flowers like these, with different coloured “petals” so that when joined they won’t look like flowers, just lots and lots of hexagons joined together in no apparent design. Just for fun, I put flowers made with 1″, .75″, .50″ and .25″ hexagons side by side with a one-cent coin to show the scale. Amazing how much difference a quarter of an inch makes.
I think I’d like to make a very small doll’s quilt with the .25″ hexagons. If I do, I’ll use batiks and the thinnest batting I can find as the seam allowances will add a lot of bulk as can be seen in this photo:
On Monday morning, Mr. Q.O. was right downtown and took some pictures of the flowers outside one of the hotels.
Tuesday was another hot and humid and smoggy day and today promises to be more of the same. Now they’re saying we’ll get a bit of relief on the weekend, but the humidity will start to build again on Monday. The cats were pretty content to curl up on the couch or in a chair. Lester snoozed on the couch.
While Smudge was on the other end, wide awake.

You’re right, the difference in the hexies is amazing. So far I haven’t succumbed! The flower baskets are lovely – let’s hope they survive the heatwave. Smudge and Lester are certainly doing their best to make sure they survive it by conserving energy!

What a difference a 1/4 inch makes!
Your hexagons are wonderful and so very tempting! In fact when I first saw them the song “Temptation” popped in my head and now I must find out who sang it ;)) Should keep me out of mischief eh??

Those hexies are cute as a button! Gosh, hadn’t realized how small some are…my admiration just increased for your skills! The soft summery pink/green print made me think of your Pink Ice blocks…how lovely they’d be together! At last,
it was Smudge’s day to keep vigil! Both kitties seem quite contented…and doing what is best on a hot summer day…just lazing about!

Four sizes – wow! That teeny 1/4 inch one is adorable – what a a cute dolls quilt they will make. Do you have a little girl in mind? My granddaughter is 15 – so I’m out of the doll clothes/quilts/etc. business. I could start a hope chest for potential great grandchildren 🙂
I made one 1/2 inch hexagon for my needle book cover and I took 6 stitches from cross hair to cross hair – the 1/4 inch would only be three tiny stitches – good grief – there wouldn’t even be much fabric to hold onto!

Wow! What a difference 1/4″ makes….thanks for showing all the sizes side by side. All of a sudden the 1/2″ hexies don’t seem so small and the 1″ seem HUGE!

Hihi, know what you mean about the difference in size! I am making 1 garden with 0.5″ hexies, 1 garden with 1″hexies and a larger version with 2″hexies for DH hihi! Goodness, how tiny! I like the way you’ve shown the various sizes together. My fingers are not tiny enough to do such detailed work on the teeny ones. (That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!)
Yes, I was thinking of the seams today as I was stitching. I am beginning to think of how to finish my quilt and then the quilting process.
