Improved 9-Patch

A new Inklingo collection came out yesterday, which includes the shapes needed for Orange Peel, Alabama Beauty, Eiffel Tower, Improved 9-patch and others. Of course, I couldn’t resist. And decided to make an Improved 9-patch in green and red with some white — perhaps the start of a Christmas quilt? It finishes at 8″.

The curves are so gentle that it’s a breeze to stitch. The matching points make it an absolute joy. And it presses beautifully too.

Tuesday afternoon, the boys were very busy watching out the window. Very, very busy.

What were they watching? What seemed like a hundred grackles swooping about, pecking away at the lawn, sitting in the trees and one which, for a moment, was pecking at the window. I was beginning to think we were in the midst of a remake of Hitchcock’s The Birds!

  2. Many years ago I saved a pattern for an Improved 9-patch table runner. I've always wanted to make that one. I wonder if I still have it? Must go look for it. Thanks for the memory jog. Grackles are really noisy aren't they?

  3. I didn't remember ever seeing that block as a circle before. I like curves to an extent, but I like straight lines piecing better. I can see why they would be fun for hand stitching though. The birds must be on a migratory path and stopping for a snack on the way.

  4. OK I want to know what you eat for breakfast to have the energy to do all the wonderful blocks you do? Or maybe you have a time turner and keep going back in time to do more?Beautiful block and it would make a stunning Christmas quilt

  5. Cathi – love your block – gosh – you were first out of the starting gate – you have a block finished and the pattern was just released! I bought it this morning and am wondering if you pieced it by hand or machine.
