Pink Ice

The design floor was put to good use again Wednesday night as I laid out the pink and white snow crystal blocks. Pink Ice is the name that I’ve decided on for this quilt. The blocks finish at 9″ and I want to use some sort of sashing but now, seeing it laid out, I’m really wondering what will work. I want to keep this as a two-colour quilt so the sashing would have to be some sort of pink. I have a plan for a border now too which will include half stars.

The fabric the blocks are lying on is a pink and white tiny print. It clearly doesn’t work for the sashing. Maybe a pink stripe of some form or a pink batik that has a lot of different shades of pink in it?

Lester sometimes looks, to me, as though he’s a very wise kitty. Then, of course, he does something totally goofy like chewing on his ruff.

Smudge showing just how well he knows how to relax. He was asleep like this, with the hind leg stretched up on the cushion.

  1. Oh, the sashing part is tricky — finding something that enhances but doesn't overpower. It's really hard to say without seeing the fabric. Can you take your blocks to a quilt shop and lay them out on various fabrics?

  2. Well, I'm not going to comment on the blocks themselves because I don't like pink, LOL, but why don't you try a narrow very dark pink border around each block and then a sashing of white or your little pink print.

  3. The blocks are really lovely. When I first saw the picture I thought "Pink Batik sashing" Sew Batik (sewBatik.com) has a great spray pattern in Rapture rose that might work.

  4. Love how the blocks look together! How about your white background for sashing and then do pink cornerstones? Or maybe little pink 4 patches or 9 patches for the cornerstones? Have you thought about setting them on point? Just a brain dump for you! -Trish

  5. Your pink blocks look great. I always have trouble with the sashing until I take the blocks to my local quilt shop and have them bring me everything they have that might look okay. When you see the right fabric, you'll know it!

  6. Pink Ice is a perfect name for those blocks …. they are very pretty. Your Smudge could be a brother to my Ashes …. she has the same white back legs and white on the tips of her paws.
