Ideas

As part of the stash organizing, I’ve been looking at fabric groupings I had in kits for various quilts which I know I won’t make. These purple and green fabrics were all together in a kit for a crazy quilt. The purples aren’t bright at all, although the greens are a bit more vibrant. I’m not sure I like them without something to brighten up the mix.

So I added in a lighter fabric with greens and purples as part of the design to see if that helped. I think this grouping would work although I have absolutely no idea of a design in which to use them. Or if I’ll use them all together in one quilt. Smudge, of course, was massively unimpressed with the whole exercise.

I think he gets almost insulted if we’re photographing anything but him!

It’s official — fall must be close. Lester was curled up in one of the kitty beds on Wednesday.

  1. I have a friend that uses purple and green in nearly every quilt she makes. Isn't it funny how we are all drawn to certain color combinations? If you are like me, it will come to you in the middle of the night exactly what to make with those fabrics!

  2. They are nice and soothing and for a zinger you could add a bright red/purple (fucshia type) or an orange (just a bit). I like to make some just soothing quilts and some that just beg you to say WOW. We need both kinds.

  3. I almost didn't recognize Lester because he wasn't on the window sill!If the fabrics don't speak to you now, Cathi, put them away for now. At one time or another they will and if they don't as a grouping, perhaps they can be paired with something entirely different.

  4. I love your Patchwork of the Crosses blocks, and I think I'm just about to order the Lucy Boston book and Inklingo shapes. I think Val enjoyed the yarn shopping at Romni Wools. I do like the lighter fabric with the purples/greens.

  5. The colors are really pretty, but I have to say I agree with Wanda. Definitely add a little zing to it and make it say WOW! Yes, I agree with Lester, I can feel fall in the air too!

  6. Your fabrics look lovely together. You know it is cold at night and hot during the day. That is the first sign I guess. I can see colors in the mountains where I couldn't a couple weeks ago. I it September!! EEK. I have panic attacks thinking of all I need to do right now before the wedding and I don't have the bride and groom's quilt done yet! And yesterday my computer got a trojan that has taken complete control. It won't even execute. So I'm toast. (I'm at work, shouldn't be commenting but I can't otherwise right now). Oh well. Sometimes I wish I was one of the cats. They live such a posh life.

  7. i agree with a couple of the others…if something's not speaking to you, put it away AND everything needs a little zing…think something totally unexpected and that's what usually works – lime green, hot pink, sunburst orange, berry red…you get the idea…☺…i never would have guessed that my "kaffe" knockoff fabrics would have worked together when i first made it but it's one of my most favorite quilts…all brights that don't normally go together bought on clearance…☺…you'll think of something…!
