As I had the pieces ready, I decided to finish adding the melon/arc units to the centre of this Double Wedding Ring centre. The fabrics I chose for the pieced arc aren’t quite right but I’m looking at this as a practice piece for now. These two melon/arc units are hand pieced, the other two will be partially done by machine and then I’m going to use the completed ring as a practice piece for — once again — trying out some free motion quilting.
I still cannot get over how easy this is to put together. The hardest part is picking out the fabrics! I’m playing with the idea of doing something with a Laurel Burch print for the centres and probably some batiks for the arcs. The weekend will see me with a pile of fabrics on the ironing board as I try some combinations. I know I want to make something that’s not even close to a traditional DWR and have had a few ideas.

The very first quilt I ever tried, after taking a ho-hum course in the 70s, was a double wedding ring quilt. I never knew it was one of the hardest to make, and that you shouldn’t use sheets for the top. This was back in the days of cutting templates from cereal boxes, which of course, didn’t hold their shape.It was supposed to be for my sister’s wedding–which was over 30 years ago. I think I finally threw out the fabrics and stuff about 10 years ago.This actually looks doable!

I would have a hard time picking the fabrics. This is such an intimidating block.Is Smudge ever all the way awake? Does he get perky when you fill his dish? I think I get sleepy just looking at pictures of him!

This is a lovely sample block! How about appliquéing it to a fabric square and use it for a cushion? You can still practice free motion quilting on it ;o)I have a fantasy about a DWR quilt in browns and beiges – some day *lol*Happy Easter! Hugs and stitches

You know what? It’s like Smudge is saying “I’m ready for the Money Shot” and in contrast Lester is being King.I am starting to think this DWR might actually make me seriously pull me into inklingo. I daydreamed about that yesterday.
