Cleaning out the Pizza Box

Peg’s challenge still has me motivated, it seems, to get some things finished up. So I got out the pizza box where I have some applique blocks stored and found this little block. There’s a pattern for a number of teddy bears in different occupations — called “Bear Family”. I have the nurse bear done so far and one other block is back-basted, ready to go.

And I found these — all from the Piece o’Cake patterns called “Flourishes”. I have 8 of the 12 blocks done. I’d like to try to finish this one even though applique is becoming a problem for my hands — perhaps if I just do a little bit at a time rather than sitting down and appliqueing for a few hours at a time it will help. I’m also going to try a different way of stitching and stitch towards myself, rather than away. Apparently that is helping a lot of people. We’ll see.

And, finally, a picture of Smudge awake!

  1. Love your flower blocks! I have always appliqued towards myself. Don’t know if it is because I’m left handed and reversed what I saw. Anyway it is what feels comfortable for me. Take your time finishing the blocks. They deserve to be a quilt.

  3. I love the flower applique blocks. I find I can only hand applique for an hour or so. I keep it by my chair so I can just pick up and put down. You’d be amazed how much you can get done while waiting for the dinner to cook. Love and hugs Gina xxx

  4. Hi Cathi,You’ve got to stay motivated to finish those quilts. They’re too fabulous not to. Sorry to hear that your hands are giving you trouble. When I do too much sewing, my wrists start acting up so I have an idea of what you’re going through. Just take it slow. The quilt will get done eventually.Take care.Aloha!

  5. Hi Cathi,Thank you for your feedback about the placement of the yo-yo posie on my handbag. I still cannot decide which I love better. I just don’t want to end up making two different bags if I can help it. Take care.Aloha!
