First of all, a huge thank you to Wanda of Exuberant Color! I won the batik scraps portion of her giveaway a few days ago and they arrived today! They’re absolutely glorious and oh, so perfect for a scrap quilter like me who loves to work with small pieces. I am having more fun looking through these!
I just had to make another of these needle cases — this time with a batik. I love how these turn out, although I think part of my fascination is using all the sparkly beads. 🙂
Last night I decided I wanted to see if making two 6-pointed stars, stitching them together and then stuffing them would work as a little pin cushion. It did! The result is a small pin cushion but it would be perfect for a little travelling stitching kit. I used 1.5″ diamonds, hand stitched them and then stuffed it. It took forever to get the stuffing in — and it was difficult getting it right to the tips. It’s not very thick, but thick enough for #11 or #12 sharps, which are pretty well all I use anyway — even as pins.

Gill,The pattern for the needle case is in Kumiko Sudo’s book called Kokoro no Te. The pin cushion I put together by just stitching 2 6-point stars together. I had printed oodles of 1.5″ diamonds for stars from the Inklingo collection 3 and decided that a few starfish pincushions would be a way to use up some of them.

From the looks of your needlebook, we have some of the same project books! I have not made that one yet. I was thinking about making some of the fabric thimbles she has in the book, just to use as walking around gifts at the Quilt Festival in Long Beach.

Yes I think the scraps were just made for you. Some people wouldn’t know what to do with small pieces of fabric. I think that is the prettiest needle case so far.

Congratulations on your recent wins, Cathi. You sure won a bunch of wonderful things. Now, your beaded needlebook is to die for. I just have to make one. I’ve got plenty of pincushions, but no needlebooks. One of these days, one of these days.Smudge looks so cute all cuddled up in his bed. Mouse used to have two that were similar to Smudge’s but he never loved them all that much. He urinated in both of them and that was the last straw. In the trash they went.
