Four Seasons Quilt

This is the beginning of the applique on the summer Four Seasons quilt, backbasted and ready to go.

One stem and its branches fully appliqued, another stem finished except for the branches and the third about 3/4 appliqued.

Once the branches are done, then I’ll sandwich and quilt it and then add the orchids from here.

It was hot here yesterday — really, really hot. Humidex readings in the 40C range. We had an amazing storm last night — lots of thunder and lightning and rain that came down in sheets! Today? Today’s a bit better, but it’s still pretty humid. Tomorrow we apparently get a day of cooler weather and then back to the heat. I am NOT complaining, as I remember those cold days in the winter and all that snow. I’ll take heat and humidity over that any time!

How do the cats deal with the heat? Smudge does this:

Lester seems to enjoy the heat — and is usually here:

  1. OH I think I understand your applique method a bit more now that I’ve seen this photo. What a hilarious photo of Smudge and Lester, well he’s just being Zen about the whole thing, in the moment, daydreaming…

  2. your cats are wonderful, I just lover them! My fuzzy orange tabby, “Frisco”, lies on the bed just below my pillows and cries until I turn on the fan, then he goes to sleep.

  3. Interesting photos of the beginning of the applique. I will be watching to see how this progresses. I enjoy all forms of applique and your work is always so nice.

  4. Love the photo of Smudge. You caught a wonderful cat pose. Lester looks deep in thought about something or maybe he’s about to fall asleep–you can never tell with cats!

  5. Will this be a wall-quilt, or bed-quilt? I have never tried the 3D kind of applique… yet! 8-)I hate the humidity! I will take winter over the heat and humidity any day… but then I don’t like the winter… but I do like spring and fall… though, I think I will just have to put up with this humidity in my A/C home…and sew today! I hope…happy stitchings!
