I thought I had finally decided on a theme for my Four Seasons Spring Quilt — flowers. To me the Oriental prints seem to denote spring and lots of flowers and, as I love putting these little GFG flowers together I thought about using a bouquet of them in a quilt top. I have about a dozen of these put together now and am stalled — my first thought was to applique them on to a suitable background, sort of like scattered blossoms. Now I’m having second thoughts.
My second idea is to finish off the ’30s pinwheels, part of which can be seen here, and bind it. The ’30s fabrics are, to me, really cheerful — which is what I think spring is. Coming out of winter and going into spring has to be the most cheerful time of year! This picture was taken a while ago — and it is now almost 20″. I’m thinking a nice white-on-white fabric for the setting diamonds and triangles to get the straight edges and then a binding of ’30’s fabric would be very cheerful — but perhaps it’s too busy?
The swap partner I was assigned had no preferences, so there’s nothing there to help me decide. Thoughts?

I love both, i’ve always loved 1930 prints, but that oriental fabric and the design are stunning. I’d go with the oriental (more unique, I haven’t seen that fabric elsewhere in blogland) But again, both are great, so finish the one you like the best!

I love the flowers for a spring quilt, the pinwheels look like there is a lot of wind around and the wind comes in summer here. And yes, the oriental fabric makes absolutely gorgeous flowers!

I would go for the GMG blocks but just because I already have a quilt with pinweels in the same style (my post from 29. Jan. 2007)!And oriental fabrics are always gorgeous. Take care.

We get our wind all year long and I’m a sucker for 30’s repros so you can guess what my vote is. *s* But both ideas are great. Why don’t you use the GFG for the summer one?

We like the 30 repo’s for this one. Only because Mom say’s there is a “stationary front” over the first idea. Definitely repo’s because that’s what all good Cat’s love today.Suddenly Kipling!

I love both of them. The 30’s pinwheel is a pattern that I was thinking of trying. . . and the oriental GFG is something else that I could see myself doing. So, my thought would be that you should finish the one that you enjoy working on the most.In peace & pieces,Sherry

They are both great. I think I lean toward the oriental ones, too, they are just beautiful and look very spring-y and cheery, yet restful at the same time.I did a double take at first because I thought you said you were going to combine them somehow..yikes!

I think when a swap partner has no preference (I was one who had none) then you should take that as a cue to make something that YOU like…that represents your style. Either one of those would be wonderful!
