A Little Stash Enhancement

We made the trip to my favourite quilt store, Sew Sisters, today as they had an Easter egg hunt on and I was looking for a few specific items. I came home with, first of all, these two fabrics for a basket block project I have planned. The pale fabric is a batik that has the faintest tints of blue and yellow. I got enough of it for the basket block project and for the sky quilt background.

Then, because I have decided to start collecting more batiks, thanks to the inspiration I get every time I look at Wanda’s blog, these 3 batik FQ’s jumped into my hands as well as the green Oriental FQ which I couldn’t resist and which is being added to the fabrics set aside for my Jane Austen patchwork quilt.

As part of the Easter egg hunt, when one was checking out, one opened a plastic egg and got whatever prize the slip inside indicated. I won these two pretty FQ’s.

The big find of the day was this! The perfect green batik for the Tropical Punch blocks! Somehow I knew I’d find the perfect green at Sew Sisters, and I did. Now to make the decision on how to set them.

Tis migraine season for me. Friday I could barely look at the computer screen and I know I deleted some unread e-mails by accident. If I haven’t responded to something, please e-mail me again. Today I thought it was pretty well gone but it has started to increase again. It’s also become rather windy in the last half hour or so, and I know that the intensity of a migraine seems to increase with wind.

Another Snow Crystal & The Creativ Festival

Another Snow Crystal block has been started. This one is using a very pretty pale pink — the variety of pinks for these blocks is fabulous. Each one is so different!

The four partial stars for the corners are ready to stitch on to the centre with lovely continuous stitching and then it’s just a matter of adding the final squares and triangles and another block will be completed!

I went to the Creativ Festival on Sunday. Whilst stuck in traffic on the way there, we got a couple of shots of the flowers in the median. This is in front of Union Station in Toronto.

I love the reflection of the sun on the metal sculptures that are part of this planting.

After the two hours I spent at the guild booth, I went off for a wander at the various vendors’ booths. I was rather shocked at some of the prices — $15 for a charm pack seemed quite a bit higher than last year! And these were just charm packs, not charms in a tin.

At my favourite booth, Sew Sisters, I found some wonderful pinks at some fabulous prices.

Just about every time I go to the Festival, I pick up a quilt stencil. This time it was this little one.

I was glad to come home. I was beginning to feel not great — think I’m fighting a flu or cold. The sore throat and aching muscles are sort of a tip-off. So it’s on to the New Zealand honey and Vitamin C and lots and lots of water for me for a few days and see if I can ward this off.

Thankfully, I have lots of pink diamonds printed so can make more Snow Crystal blocks. I certainly have next to no energy!

Lester really does love the windowsill. It’s very easy to take 20 or 30 photos of him in next to no time as he poses.

Stash Enhancement!!

I haven’t posted much this week. It has been a miserable week for me — almost 24/7 migraines. Our weather patterns this summer are so bizarre and they seem to have meant nothing but migraine after migraine. Some better meds today and I’m much more able to cope.

A visit to Sew Sisters was on the list today and oh, my!! I came home with some wonderful goodies. First of all — this glorious batik. It makes me thinks of waves.

This was another of my finds today. It’s going in with the other Oriental fabrics I’ve collected. I know I want to do one very special quilt just with these fabrics but haven’t yet chosen a pattern.

The main reason for the trip today was to pick up some silk batting and the Gypsy Gripper! I’ve already used it. I have limited strength in my hands and have some difficulty holding a ruler steady sometimes — but with this, it’s a piece of cake!

From the fat quarter bin — I just couldn’t resist any of these. There were a few more but they’re already hanging up to dry. I HAD to hand wash a few as soon as I got home as I have plans. 🙂

An Outing to the LQS

We headed up to Sew Sisters this afternoon, hoping to get a Gypsy Gripper. No luck on that score, but they’re ordering one in for me. It’s a great store and I’m thrilled they’ve opened a shop here in Toronto!

However, I found a few goodies that just had to make their way home with me! First of all, this book by Kumiko Sudo.

I have two other of her books and absolutely love them so I can’t wait to give a few of the designs in this one a try! I’m thinking a few needle cases could be made with a pretty folded flower as decoration.

I’ve wanted to try sashiko for ages. Sew Sisters has these wonderful little designs which are perfect for a newbie like me. So I picked up the package with the fabric, the thread and the sashiko needles. I know, I know — I said I was going to stick to the blue and white stars, and I am, but I have been so curious about sashiko and these just sort of jumped into my hands! :-))

I’m going to try to be good and not start on this till I have at least the centre of the blue and white stars done but I can hear it calling to me! I’ll have to find the little embroidery hoop before I do anything with this, though — as it is what I’ll use for this.

I have had a few comments lately from people whose accounts are not set up to receive e-mail. If you don’t receive a reply from me to your comments, it’s because you’re not set up to receive e-mails on your account. It’s not that I don’t want to reply — I just can’t!

PWL: If you’re reading this — we enjoyed meeting you as well!
