More Fall Colours

We were at the gas station yesterday (wow, have gas prices here fallen!! lowest since February) and I couldn’t resist this photo. Love the golden colour of these leaves.

Then I noticed this tree and the little patch of red leaves in amongst the mostly still green leaves really caught my eye.

At the St. Lawrence Market (fabulous market in Toronto), I couldn’t resist snapping a picture of this bouquet.

And this one! Look at the colours — love the richness of them!

Lester looks almost small when he curls up like this to sleep.

Pink and White

I spent part of Wednesday afternoon getting these fabrics ready to print and then printing them. Now I have all the bits necessary for about a dozen Snow Crystal blocks and I’ve printed a bunch of extra diamonds for the swap.

It’s almost addictive, printing the templates on to the fabric. Sometimes I wonder if perhaps I didn’t have enough time as a child to play with paper dolls or something!

This is one of the silliest photos of Smudge we’ve got yet. This one makes me laugh out loud every time I look at it.

And then there’s this one of Lester. I love this. Not sure what we did to the camera to get this effect, but I love it! Of course, he has his favourite toy under his paw.

Fall Foliage & Flowers

It was a stunningly gorgeous day here yesterday so walking about taking photos was a wonderful treat. This is one of the trees in front of the building, which still has green leaves.

These little pink roses are still blooming along the walkway up to the front door.

The mums are looking wonderful and rich.

It seems almost every high-rise building around here has planters out front. This is one of the planters across the street.

This is another, and one of my favourites.

One of the plants in that planter:

Another of the plants:

This is my favourite of the plants in that planter — these always fascinate me and I love that they last well into the late fall.

The flowers in yet another planter:

Fall Colours on the Roof Garden

This is the first year I can remember that the vine on the trellis on the roof garden has treated us to such colour. I suppose the amount of rain this summer really did make a difference.

While the vine turns colours, the flowers at the base of the trees are still going strong and as vibrant as ever.

This shot shows that there are still buds to open on some of the flowers out there. If no sudden frost hits, I suppose we’ll have flowers for a while yet.

The squirrels (BTRTC’s, Karen Dianne) are very busy right now. Looking out the window and seeing them darting about is always good for a laugh. Some of the squirrel races are amazing to watch.

Lester with his most favourite toy. He really likes to keep it within reach.

Today is our federal election so tonight should make for some interesting television viewing as we see the results start to come in.

Strips and Strips of Hexagons

There are about 16 of the strips of hexagons done now and there are 19 rows to go. These are almost all from swaps along with a few extras I had printed at one time or another. I’ll need to really take my time when I lay them out to figure out the order of rows so that I don’t have the same fabric/colour right beside itself, but I love how scrappy this will look!

Smudge sleeping the other night. He’s just so angelic — when he’s asleep!

Lester, also crashed. You’d think they had turkey dinner or something.

On that note, Happy Thanksgiving! It has been an absolutely glorious weekend here with fabulous warm weather and lots of sun. If only it could stay like this all year round!

Snow Crystals

Remember this Snow Crystal block that I made when testing the new Inklingo free 4.5″ LeMoyne Star collection? Well, there are going to be more of them! Stay tuned! This may well be the beginning of my pink and white quilt. I’m doing a one-on-one swap with Martha, another Inklingo’er, of the pieces for these wonderful little Snow Crystals and can’t wait! Rather fitting, I suppose — getting ready to do Snow Crystal blocks as we go towards winter. 🙂

Yet another shot of Lester on — where else? — the windowsill.

And Smudge — look at the size of that paw!

A Rainy Day and Almost Finished Label

The label is, for the most part, finished. All that’s left now is to press all the little seams, write the names on the centre panel and then stitch that to the flower border.

The window cleaners came today. They did the exterior and we did the interior. It’s wonderful! Of course, it immediately started to rain but they’re much cleaner after that summer of rain, rain and more rain!

I’m not sure what the plant is that is turning that wonderful pink shade. It was green all summer but now is really quite striking to look out and see. I took this and the next photo from our living room.

The rain was falling but the flowers surrounding this crab apple tree are still very vibrant. I couldn’t resist trying for a shot of them as well.

The last couple of days, Lester has been hanging out on the windowsill a lot. Today was fun — we got a lot of good shots of him.

Smudge, just after his yogourt treat the other night. If you look closely, you can see that he has a bit of yogourt on his nose still.

The Never-Ever Ending Quilt Label

I really under-estimated the time it would take to finish this label! However, all that’s left now is to attach two final little rows of half hexagons to give a straight edge to the interior and exterior right side of the label. Then to write all the names out on the centre panel.

And a whole lot of pressing to be done! I love how these work, though, when pressed. Each intersection of seam allowances will just fall into place, following the previous one.

We’re not sure what Lester was looking at in this photo — probably a shadow on the wall.

The Never-Ending Quilt Label

First came the 18 little GFG’s.

Then I began joining them all together. I love the effect of the little flowers in the border and the room in the centre will be perfect for all the names and places of residence of those involved in the group quilt. The label will finish at about 13.5 x 18.5 inches. The pattern came from the Inklingo .50″ hexagon collection.

I thought I’d gotten away with it — but my photo helper/fabric biter had to make an appearance! I managed to whisk away the partially completed frame of GFG flowers before he could bite any of them.

I can’t believe how hard it is to get a good photograph at this time of year! None of these colours are true at all. Guess we need to get a proper light set-up. When the label is finished, I’ll try to get a better shot of it.

Lester, the other night. I suppose he was making sure that Cappy wouldn’t escape while he was sleeping!

A Change in Plans

My plan was to get more strips of the hexagons done this week but I have set it aside for a couple of days in order to make a very special label for a group quilt. It will have 261 pieces in it and I’m hoping to have it finished this weekend. As soon as it’s done I’ll post a photo.

As I don’t like to post without a photo, the above is one of my favorites of Lester — it may be a bit soft focus but I absolutely love the look on his face!
