Another Snow Crystal

This block was finished Friday night. Each block is going to be in a different pink fabric so the sashing and binding for this will be important — I’m playing with the idea of a pink and charcoal stripe if I can find one that works, but that’s far off in the future.

I even love the back of these blocks. Pressing them is amazingly simple — start with one seam intersection and they all follow. I need to go over a couple of spots on this block again, but it lies so wonderfully flat once pressed this way!

Lester, in one of his “thinker” poses.

And a huge treat for us — the two boys curled up together. We rarely see them do this.

I’m off to the Creativ Festival today and will be on the lookout for some more pink FQ’s for the Snow Crystal blocks. No cameras are allowed, so I won’t be coming home with pictures to share.

Strips and Strips of Hexagons

There are about 16 of the strips of hexagons done now and there are 19 rows to go. These are almost all from swaps along with a few extras I had printed at one time or another. I’ll need to really take my time when I lay them out to figure out the order of rows so that I don’t have the same fabric/colour right beside itself, but I love how scrappy this will look!

Smudge sleeping the other night. He’s just so angelic — when he’s asleep!

Lester, also crashed. You’d think they had turkey dinner or something.

On that note, Happy Thanksgiving! It has been an absolutely glorious weekend here with fabulous warm weather and lots of sun. If only it could stay like this all year round!

Snow Crystals

Remember this Snow Crystal block that I made when testing the new Inklingo free 4.5″ LeMoyne Star collection? Well, there are going to be more of them! Stay tuned! This may well be the beginning of my pink and white quilt. I’m doing a one-on-one swap with Martha, another Inklingo’er, of the pieces for these wonderful little Snow Crystals and can’t wait! Rather fitting, I suppose — getting ready to do Snow Crystal blocks as we go towards winter. 🙂

Yet another shot of Lester on — where else? — the windowsill.

And Smudge — look at the size of that paw!

A Rainy Day and Almost Finished Label

The label is, for the most part, finished. All that’s left now is to press all the little seams, write the names on the centre panel and then stitch that to the flower border.

The window cleaners came today. They did the exterior and we did the interior. It’s wonderful! Of course, it immediately started to rain but they’re much cleaner after that summer of rain, rain and more rain!

I’m not sure what the plant is that is turning that wonderful pink shade. It was green all summer but now is really quite striking to look out and see. I took this and the next photo from our living room.

The rain was falling but the flowers surrounding this crab apple tree are still very vibrant. I couldn’t resist trying for a shot of them as well.

The last couple of days, Lester has been hanging out on the windowsill a lot. Today was fun — we got a lot of good shots of him.

Smudge, just after his yogourt treat the other night. If you look closely, you can see that he has a bit of yogourt on his nose still.

The Never-Ever Ending Quilt Label

I really under-estimated the time it would take to finish this label! However, all that’s left now is to attach two final little rows of half hexagons to give a straight edge to the interior and exterior right side of the label. Then to write all the names out on the centre panel.

And a whole lot of pressing to be done! I love how these work, though, when pressed. Each intersection of seam allowances will just fall into place, following the previous one.

We’re not sure what Lester was looking at in this photo — probably a shadow on the wall.

The Never-Ending Quilt Label

First came the 18 little GFG’s.

Then I began joining them all together. I love the effect of the little flowers in the border and the room in the centre will be perfect for all the names and places of residence of those involved in the group quilt. The label will finish at about 13.5 x 18.5 inches. The pattern came from the Inklingo .50″ hexagon collection.

I thought I’d gotten away with it — but my photo helper/fabric biter had to make an appearance! I managed to whisk away the partially completed frame of GFG flowers before he could bite any of them.

I can’t believe how hard it is to get a good photograph at this time of year! None of these colours are true at all. Guess we need to get a proper light set-up. When the label is finished, I’ll try to get a better shot of it.

Lester, the other night. I suppose he was making sure that Cappy wouldn’t escape while he was sleeping!

A Change in Plans

My plan was to get more strips of the hexagons done this week but I have set it aside for a couple of days in order to make a very special label for a group quilt. It will have 261 pieces in it and I’m hoping to have it finished this weekend. As soon as it’s done I’ll post a photo.

As I don’t like to post without a photo, the above is one of my favorites of Lester — it may be a bit soft focus but I absolutely love the look on his face!

More Insanity

Not a lot of stitching has got done this week, but a LOT of printing has been! I can’t even begin to imagine making this quilt without Inklingo — no basting, no whip stitching, just lovely quick running stitching. Makes it all so quick and so incredibly accurate!

All these charms have been printed with the .50″ hexagons and cut, ready to turn into a hexagon diamond.

These are the charms I have left to print, which will be done this weekend. Then all I need to print are a bunch of white hexagons and another shape as I’m thinking of amending the pattern a bit. And then it’s just all lovely hand piecing till they’re done! 🙂

One part of the pattern I definitely won’t change is the fact it needs some little GFG flowers so I started making a couple of those this week too. I’m using YLI Heirloom thread and I absolutely love how it just sinks into the seams. Perfect thread for these little pieces.

While I may be working with colours that look like spring, Smudge is definitely into fall mode curled up in one of the cat beds.

Insanity Progress

This is the past week’s progress on Insanity. These little hexagon diamonds are quick as can be to put together, just under an hour for each one. I’ve been working in a reporter’s office as a registrar a few days the past week or so, and I take one of these with me to stitch on during the lunch break — great way to spend the lunch break.

I still have about 100 charms to print but that will be done by the end of this week. I can usually get about 50 or 60 of them printed in no time.

Last night was my first meeting of the quilt guild. It was a bit overwhelming — huge, huge guild with 465 members! Thankfully, I finally met Samadhi, to whom I am very grateful for her encouragement to join the guild. There was a great trunk show by Sherri Hisey — absolutely gorgeous selection of quilts including some fabulous barn finds!

I love this shot of Lester — he looks quite lost in thought. It was probably just before he pounced on a toy!

Tiny Stars

Last night, after printing and cutting out another stack of the little hexagons, I was compelled to print out one charm of the diamonds. I couldn’t resist making two stars from the new .50″ diamond Inklingo collection. The seams are so short that it truly is one load of stitches on the needle and you’re done. One could make a lot of these stars in next to no time. I think I made the two of them in less than 20 minutes. Didn’t time it, but I will next time. From a 5″ charm, I had enough diamonds for 3 of these little stars.

Now I’m thinking of making a miniature Seven Sisters quilt using these. They are such fun to stitch.

Lester, one of the few times we’ve managed to get a shot of him when his ruff didn’t look awful. We can comb and comb and comb him but as we comb he is licking and chewing on his ruff so that it looks as though he’s never groomed! Or wandering about with it partially stuck in his mouth. Very goofy — yet another reason he is so well-loved!
