The tea rose still isn’t finished! Why? It seems I decided to start looking for possible backgrounds for flowers and got lost pulling fabrics for hours. Fabrics were flying through the air on to the stack of possibilities because as I was finding possible backgrounds, I was also finding other fabrics that may turn into flowers.
This is the group of possible backgrounds I pulled. I know some of them look dark, but I do sometimes use the wrong side of a fabric if it’s just right.
I was surprised at just how much orange I have. This was the first group of orange that I pulled.
This was the second orange group.
Then there were these extra orange fabrics. All of the orange fabrics I pulled could get grouped with fabrics I already had pulled for the Garden Gone Wild quilt. Clearly there are more orange flowers to come for the quilt.
Then came the purples. I already knew I wanted to make at least two more purple flowers, but now I’m thinking there may be more than that. This is purple group 1 with a possible background.
The second purple group with the background fabric I’d definitely use for it.
There were a few other fabrics I pulled, thinking they may go with other fabrics already pulled. Now that I have this out of my system, surely I can get the tea rose finished by Friday!
I want to get the delphinium done once I finish the tea rose. Then I will be putting groups of fabrics together for more flowers and printing the shapes for a number of them, so that for at least a few weeks I will have nothing to do but just pick up the shapes and sew flowers.

Jake is getting, I think, sick of me taking photos of him. He was very uncooperative yesterday – I had to take this very quickly, before he turned away.
I tried to crop this photo of Baxter but didn’t want to cut off his whiskers. They just never end!

Hi Cathi, I love the pics of the kitties. You DEFFINETLY have fabrics to choose from, the sky’s the limit there.
I’m a purple nut!! Was shopping yesterday and stopped dead in my tracks for this GORGEOUS flannel fabric!! Eee gads I might just go back and buy more today! I live in agricultural country… all the major stores are an hour to an hour and a half away. So, it would need to be a committed trip…. lol…

When I add those fabrics to the ones I’ve already pulled, I really do have loads and loads of possibilities. I’d definitely make that committed trip if you really fell in love with that fabric! And soon, before it sells out!

My fabric stash is not in any one spot – it’s in tubs in a clothes closet, under a table, etc. While I do have some yardage, particularly of backgrounds or prints for which I have a specific plan, a lot of what I have is small cuts like a FQ or even less. It would be difficult to get a photo of it all in one spot!

I am lucky to have so many choices to play with ahead of me! Baxter’s whiskers have always been enormously long, even when he was a kitten. Maybe it’s a Maine Coon trait?

I agree! Now I’ve got to sort through all the new ones I pulled along with those I already had pulled and see what I can put together. One of them is definitely going to be that shaggy orange coneflower you showed on your blog! I have the perfect fabric for it, I think.

A lot of those are small pieces left over from other projects or FQs or F8s that I picked up because I liked the colours of them. Most of them have been in my stash for years and years, just waiting to come out and play.

With all that fabric, how do you have room for the men in your life? I know—they just sleep on top of it—like mine do.

I think those photos must have been a bit deceptive as most of the fabrics in them are no more than half-yard cuts, if that! They usually live in closed containers in the clothes closet, away from the guys.

Have you considered a saturated, medium to dark green for your background?

If I were going to use the same background for all the blocks, that might have been something I’d have looked at. I think if I were to use something like that for a block or two, it would make them stand out rather too much.

Fabric flying everywhere. I need to say ” A HUGE thank you for my very own pre-eclipse TOON”. And look what happens afterwards. I guess all those fabric bunnies and helpers were confused when day turned into night for those fleeting seconds, or a minute plus. Colours galore, and you have that knack of putting them together so well. Do not wait for the next eclipse to choose some more glorious shades.

Thanks, Mary! Most of it is small pieces, but I am so glad I bought FQs just because I liked the colour. Many have sat for a long time, waiting for the perfect project.
