I’ve found some great websites over the past week or so with fabulous pictures of flowers and it has been to those websites that I refer when trying to name the blocks of my Ribbons of Flowers Garden Quilt. Particularly for this one …
… the Anemone Ribbon Flower block. And this is yet another variation. The variations with this block, depending on whether I use mirror shape images, different outer edge shapes, adding the bonus shape, fabric placement, etc. truly do seem endless!
The back of the Anemone Ribbon Flower. I’m really curious why the colour reads so differently from the front than the back as I took the pictures within seconds of one another in the exact same light. All I can think is it may have something to do with the fact that I had used the “wrong” side of the fabric for the frame as using the right side wasn’t going to give me the effect I wanted.
There will be one more purple Ribbon Flower. Well, for now I’m thinking only one more purple one. I’m on to a new colour for my flowers. I have everything printed for it and will get a very good start on it today.
I couldn’t resist taking this photo of the flower arrangement in our elevator lobby yesterday. Every few days, we get a new flower arrangement and they’re all fabulous. Every time I look at the flowers, I think I should take a photo but never seem to. Yesterday when I saw those purple flowers in the arrangement I had to make sure I got a photo. I’m going to try to remember to take photos when the arrangements change.
“Purple Passion”
It’s difficult to take a picture of Jake that I can actually use these days. As soon as he sees me with my phone pointed towards him, he wants to come right over to investigate. Which results in countless very blurry close-up shots of him. Seconds after I took this one, it would have been another super blurry picture of one eye or his nose.
This photo of Baxter makes me grin. There’s hardly a photo wide enough to get all his whiskers in the shot! He loves to pose for photos. I’m convinced of that.

Morning Cathi, WHOA!!!those are the longest whiskers I have ever seen!!
Again I must say love how you play with the fabric.
Jake seems genuinely alive in that shot. Too cute.

Thanks, Lori – I really do love playing with fabric combinations, so making the ribbon flowers is pure fun from beginning to end. Baxter does have the longest whiskers I’ve ever seen too – even our vet has commented on it.

When I saw that rose in the ‘toon, I cracked up! I think I may have decided purple flowers are my favourites – love working with fabric combinations for them!

The anemone is beautiful Cathi. I love the purples you’ve used. The vase of flowers shows how dramatic that colour can be. I love the green with the purple along with the touch of white.

Thanks, Liz. I do love to play with fabric combinations – so this block is perfect for that. I thought it was fabulous that we just happened to have an arrangement in the elevator lobby that had purple flowers the day I was going to write this post!

The purple flowers in your arrangement are hydrangea. And I am sure Baxter will claim the purple flower in your quilt as his–befitting royalty, you know. And, those are very handsome vibrassae! I need to finish my first so I can post for Linda. Too many things on the “must do” list these days.

Baxter thinks everything is his! If I leave a block somewhere he can sit on it, he will. And heaven forbid I leave a stack of pieces for a block within kitty reach – then they’re likely to get carted off by him. He loves fabric! I can’t wait to see your first block – it’s going to be so wonderful with the fabrics you chose!

I’m surprised at how much I want to work with the purple to make the ribbon flowers – I’ve made more of them than pink ones – at least so far that’s what has happened. Kitties are patted. Pats right back to yours!
