The next block for my Ribbons of Flowers Garden Quilt is complete. I got sidetracked so many times while I was making this one that it’s hard to describe!
But before I say a word about the distractions, the Periwinkle Ribbon Flower block.
And from the back. I’ve graded all the seams except where the pieced flower is added to the background. Once again, I pressed the background in behind the flower as I decided I definitely like what that does to the look of the block.
What was distracting me? I kept looking for fabrics for the next ribbon flower. Then, as I was looking for fabrics, I’d find other fabrics that would be possibly perfect as background fabrics for different flowers. So now there are little piles of fabrics all over – some batiks, some regular quilting cottons, some backgrounds and then a jumble of everything. I really do need to get this sorted out. Up next may be another blue or yellow or orange or another pink flower or – well, the list just goes on and on! I have a feeling my Ribbons of Flowers Garden Quilt is going to be enormous if I keep going at this rate!
This time I used one of the alternate background shapes. Compared, side by side, with the rose block, you can see the slight difference. With all the variations that are possible, and I’ve not even really scratched the surface, my hope is that each block is going to be different.

This one is my favourite – until I finish the next one, that is. I’m hopeless – they’re all my favourites! I wonder if you’re thinking of a cruller – I just looked at a picture of one and I can see what you meant! I know – I always think Jake looks sort of sad too, but he is a happy, active kitty. And Baxter – well, Baxter knows how to relax!

The blue is my favourite, I like the way the petals swirl, and pressing to the flower does make it stand out so well. Choices, choices, the Toon has the blues.

This is making me wish we had a garden – I know what kind of flowers I’d want for sure. And periwinkle would definitely be one. I loved picking out the fabrics for this, trying to get the right colours for a periwinkle.

Love the fabric on the main periwrinkle blades. this collection is sure exciting. I have purchased it but not played yet..

I love that fabric that’s in the large arc too – and the fact it’s not a batik but frayed so little was a huge added bonus! It acted like a batik but wasn’t difficult to get a needle through at all. I wish I knew who the manufacturer was, because I’d definitely buy more of their fabrics in the future! Be warned – once you start playing with the new collection, you will not be able to stop!! Making these blocks is absolutely, positively addictive!!
