Ribbon Flower Unfolding

I thought I’d have it finished by now, but not quite. There were a few changes I made which involved printing a few more shapes and it has slowed me down a bit.

Ribbon Flower Variation - pinkwtmk

As of now, I’ve got this pink Ribbon Flower variation a bit over halfway done, although only this portion is joined together so far. I feel relatively sure I’ll have it done for Friday’s post!

I’ve also been pulling more fabrics. This group of purples will get some other fabrics put with it and I know a purple Ribbon Flower variation is coming soon. There are so many variations one can make, depending on fabric placement and values, that I think I might be making Ribbon Flowers for a long time.

I know I have a pretty cotton print with purple in it that would play nicely with those purple batiks – now I just have to find it! I really need to organize my fabric better so that finding things isn’t a challenge.

This group undoubtedly has two or three Ribbon Flowers in it, once I add some more fabrics to that mix.

Jake July 11, 2017wtmk

Jake is fascinated by the hall closet. He will spend ages getting the door open. He doesn’t go in – just sits and looks in once he gets the door open and then wanders off to do other kitty things. We close it and listen and watch as he gets it open again. This goes on almost every day.

Baxter Closeup, July 11, 2017wtmk

Baxter has zero interest in that closet. He’ll actually just walk by when Jake is busy opening it. He’d much rather hang out on the kitty tree or play with his toys.

  1. I’m giggling at Jake. One of our cats, Le Bleu, has a thing about opening the door into the larder. Even when you think it’s properly shut, there’s a spot, lower left corner, where he just hits it with his paw, and the door opens. Why does he do it? Because he can!

    • We’re always amazed at Jake getting that door open as it takes a bit of a tug to do so, but he’s found just the right spot where he can get his paw under and get it to open. It must be fun watching Le Bleu do that! Does he ever go in the larder or just leave once he’s accomplished opening it?

      • dépends on his mood that day really. Sometimes he goes in for a wander, and other times he just gives a smug cat-grin and walks off.

    • I love purples too – and know that is the beginning of the next Ribbon Flower. I just have to find that one print that I know will play so, so nicely with them!

    • The variations seem endless. And as it’s all curved piecing, which is one of my very favourite things, I know I’ll keep wanting to make more and more!

  2. The variation is going to be very pretty and I love the purple. So rich looking. My daughter’s cat just stares at the wall in her pantry from time to time. I think she once caught a mouse in there and may be hoping for its return. Who knows!

    • I think the purple one may end up my favourite – especially if I have enough of the cotton print left to add to the mix. Cats are so interesting – it’s fun to just watch them!

  3. Oh my!! Purple purple PURPLE! Love it!
Cathi those Ribbon flowers will be stunning, together.
I wonder if Jake knows my Graddy? Graddy opens the closet door and doesn’t hesitate to walk right in and nap.
Baxter I think is amazingly photogetic (sp?)
    Rainy here today…..

    • The next one I make will definitely be a purple one. I think I’m going to have a wonderful garden of ribbon flowers to put together with all the variations and colours I plan on using!

Baxter is quite photogenic – as are, it seems, all Maine Coon kitties. Lester and Smudge were fabulously photogenic as well and were on almost all my older blog posts.

  4. Wow, I can’t wait to see that one finished! Those are going to be gorgeous blocks!
Maybe Jake is just checking to see if you have more fabric hiding in that closet, or there is a friendly little critter hiding in there, LOL! Or maybe he’s the opener and then Baxter is the one who actually goes in there to check on things when you aren’t looking! By the way, does he still drink water that funny way of laying on his back and drinking over his shoulder thing?

    • I can’t wait either – I think this one may be my favourite. So far, that is. I love the look I’m getting with it and can’t wait until I’ve got the frame around it!!

Baxter does indeed still drink over his shoulder while on his back with front paws waving in the air. I need to get a new photo of that! That won’t be difficult as he has a very specific meow that means, “I’m going to drink water now. Watch!” Which we do – every time! LOL

    • The way Jake tears into his toys, I bet he’d be a terror to any birds were he to ever be an outdoor kitty! One thing’s for sure – if we ever had a mouse, he’d know what to do with it while Baxter, I think, would watch it for a while, maybe toy with it a bit and then grow bored with the whole situation!
