The First Peony Block is Growing

Adding round 2 went very, very quickly. If I stopped here and added the frame, it would be a 6″ block. But I’m not stopping at a mere 6″. I want big beautiful peony blocks so they’re going to be twice the size and will finish at 12″ once their frames are added.

 

Pressing took just a few seconds.

 

So much so that I have rounds 3 and 4 added, although I sewed them together first before adding them on to what was already together. That seam was the only one that involved curved piecing – and it was a nice soft curve that was easy. The rest was just lots and lots of continuous sewing.

 

And the back again, after pressing. This block looks, I think, really intriguing from the back – so much so that I almost wish I could somehow make a front that looked like the back sometimes.

So now just one more “petal” round and then the outer frame.  And then my first Peony Block will be done and I’m going to have to force myself back to the border blocks for the Pickled Ladies quilt. Why force? Because now I have the entire Peony Quilt planned, including some buds that will appear on the outer edges. Oh, what fun I’m going to be having with all that glorious pink soon!

And then Baxter did. Thankfully, they don’t fight over whose turn it is but just take possession when it’s free.

    • I am having so much fun making this block that I think the quilt I’ve got planned may be done very quickly – because I never, as we know, get sick of working with pink!

  4. Your peony blossom is going to be finished before mine start to bloom. They are in bud stage now, and will probably face plant themselves when they are gorgeous. Wish they had sturdier stems. I have too many to cage them.

    Is the “peony blossom” a new pattern release from Linda?

    • Ha – mine is going to bloom before they even start here! I’ve been thinking about the peony bushes we had in the backyard when I was growing up, and I think somehow my mother had the bushes supported by the short fence that they were next to. I know they weren’t caged, but I don’t ever remember there being a problem with them falling over so they had to have been somehow supported.
      The idea I have for the peony buds doesn’t involve a new collection, but it will be made with a collection we already have.

    • Thank you. I think it is going to be really pretty if my plan works out as well as I’m envisioning it will. I’ve tried really hard over the past year to stay focused on one project at a time, but I think I’m about to go back to flitting from one project to another over 3 or 4 different ones. It’s much more fun that way!

    • Thank you – I’m really excited about working with all these luscious pinks and making the peony blocks! I used to always be flitting from project to project, and I’m going to go back to that as it makes it so much more fun!

    • Thank you – I hope the whole quilt comes together as I’ve got it planned out in my mind.

      I was listening to Mr.Q.O. quietly laughing to himself as he was drawing that ‘toon and when I saw it, I started to laugh out loud too.
