I know that I’m in the minority on this, but I love working with small pieces. And while I continue working on piecing the blocks for the Pickled Ladies pieced border, I keep thinking about a miniature — hmm, something. What it might be, I have no idea quite yet.
Maybe I’ll keep making as many of these tiny Carpenter’s Wheel blocks as I can and turn this into something other than a 12″ miniature?
Maybe I’ll do something other than this with the 2″ clamshells. One idea that I can’t seem to stop thinking about is how much fun the 2″ clamshells might be set as four patches.
Maybe another small quilt made of tiny kaleidoscope LeMoyne Stars? It will have to be with different fabrics if I do as the fabric I used to fussy cut/print for this tiny quilt top has been used elsewhere. And my love of piecing miniatures is yet another reason I am so very grateful for Inklingo collections that allow me to print the tiny shapes right on to the back of my fabrics. I can’t even begin to imagine accurately cutting or tracing templates that small for the tiny quilts I so love to make!
Then again, perhaps it won’t be a miniature. I may do something else with the Orange Peel Deluxe collection. There’s one idea involving shapes in that collection that I can’t seem to get out of my mind and, of course, the big attraction there is that it would be lots and lots of curved piecing. Or something else altogether may suddenly have to be made – as in if there’s a new Inklingo collection released between now and the time I finish Pickled Ladies. That may well send me off on an altogether different path. It’s fun wondering what Inklingo collection might be coming next!
But right now my focus is on the pieced blocks for the Pickled Ladies border. I have 13 more to make and then it will be time to start sewing them together and then adding all the borders to the top. It’s fun to think about what I might start next, while I work on those blocks, even though there are at least four other things that should be on top of my list. Adding another row of rings to the Joseph’s Coat, working on the two-colour Double Wedding Ring, and two baby quilts should really be my focus after I finish Pickled Ladies but the idea of starting something new is SO appealing!

I seem to be taking a lot of closeup photos of Jake these days.
This photo, while a bit blurry as I took it when Baxter was in the midst of washing his paw/face, made me laugh when I looked at it. Baxter has allergies that have caused him to sneeze and one of his eyes is rather weepy. We were at the vet with him on Thursday and he’s now doing better (although he’d much rather not have anything to do with the eye drops that were prescribed). So this photo made me laugh, thinking it looked as though he was either hiding his face so I couldn’t get near him with the dreaded eye drops or making a kitty version of a rude gesture with his paw to get his point across about them!

That’s one place I won’t go yet… minis.
they are beautiful, but I’m not so sure my fingers are nimble enough.

Baxter’s doing much better now, although we still have a few days to go with the eye drops. Minis are fun and a great way to play with ideas for larger quilts!

I am somewhat obsessed with minis! They’re fun.
We think Baxter has seasonal allergies. The leaves on the trees are just starting to come out and there’s undoubtedly all sorts of pollen in the air. It happened at the same time last year, so the vet thinks it is just allergies and we’ll probably deal with this annually. Cathi

I think a pile of miniature quilts to try out all of the patterns from Inklingo is a good idea. Then you have a visual for a pattern if you decide you want to make a larger one and if you never make a large quilt from them, you still have the pleasure of looking at all of the piecing you loved.

I hadn’t thought of it like that, but you’re right! The minis are a great idea for trying out ideas and I think that’s the perfect idea for the 2” clamshells – I want to see what I think of them as four-patch clamshells, but I think I’ll start with just a few to see what I think.
I’ve got to get those little minis quilted and bound. It would be fun to have a few of htem on the walls!

I saw a photo earlier on another blog, that had mini quilts hung on a wall by a set of stairs, and it was really lovely. Yours are truly beautiful, and the toon today… hands up in happiness or despair at all those mini pieces floating by!!!

Our apartment has a long, narrow hallway – and I think it might be a fun way to sort of redecorate by hanging some little quilts. So perhaps making a few more minis and getting them quilted and bound should be a bit of a priority. Cathi

Just saw this post re-mini’s I too love them. Baxter looks cute what we can see of him & Jake has that ‘don’t look at me with THAT camera’ thing happening. They always know how to pose don’t they.

Minis are fun, aren’t they? I’m always amused at the cats and their different reactions to the camera – while Jake puts up with it, Baxter loves to pose for the camera!

I’m so glad to see you blogging again! I’ve missed seeing your projects, the kitties, and the cartoons. Our Cocoa loves being in our backyard right now but his allergies are making him itchy. I’ve always made minis but lately have enjoyed taking the scraps from a larger quilt and making a mini memory quilt.

Thank you! Ha – Baxter, in particular, loves to steal little pieces of fabric. So I have learned to keep things in their project boxes so as not to lose pieces!Jake doesn’t seem to have the same fabric thief tendencies.
