A Slight Diversion

I’m just way too easily distracted. A friend posted an EQ drawing on my Facebook page the other day. Could I resist it? No, not a chance! I looked at it and looked at it and it dawned on me how to make …

… this block. I have no idea if it has a proper name, but for whatever reason I’m thinking of it as a poinsettia. Can’t you see this in reds and pinks? Irresistible! It’s made using quarter clamshell shapes and, of course, I used Inklingo to print the shapes on my fabrics. I can’t even begin to imagine making this block and getting the perfect curves on such tiny pieces any other way.

Each square measures 1.5″ and the little block finishes at 6″. It has me absolutely captivated. So another on the list of little quilts I want to make – maybe a bouquet of blocks of different colours. A block with scrappy blues, one with scrappy mauves/purples, another with more pinks of course, one with reds – and the list goes on and on.

A box arrived last week and we’ve been unable to throw it out. Because, of course, a box is an absolute cat magnet and this box is a perfect size for the boys. This time Jake had taken up residence in it while Baxter looked on. I’m waiting for the day they both try to get in it at the same time.

  2. Cathi, this will make a beautiful quilt, no matter how you choose to use it, but for me, those squares are too small for my arthritic hands, although 2″ are doable. I can’t wait to see your finished product, and hope a tutorial or pattern will be available. Love the graceful lines of the design. Merry Christmas!

  3. Isn’t that pretty……you could make a wonderful swirling ribbon effect, just imagine it in rainbow colours with one colour blending into the next! We never throw out boxes, who needs expensive cat toys when you have a box? A waterproof box would make a great sled for an alien cat.

  4. It’s a lovely block and I can see the flower quilt made of these in my mind, I think it will be lovely. How long is your list now (both WIP and planned)?
The boys look to be having fun. It looks like they get along very well together.
