Alternate Block Layout from Celtic Solstice Mystery

Remember I thought my yellow was too strong for the Celtic Solstice mystery quilt? Well, I played around with the layout I had guessed at earlier and put the units for almost two full blocks side by side. In this layout the yellow and blue four patches don’t seem as strong. I like it and I have a feeling when four blocks are joined I’ll like it even more. I didn’t have enough of the Birds in the Air units finished to lay out two complete blocks, but now that I know what I’m going to do I’m more excited about working on them again.

So that is how I’m going to set the units from the mystery quilt. My blocks will be 15″ finished and I’m going to make it a 45″ x 60″ lap quilt and then might add a border or two. I’m quite pleased with it. And I’m thrilled with the things I learned during the construction of the units for the blocks – it made putting together the Birds in the Air and the chevron units really fun. And figuring out how to chain piece when hand piecing was another great bonus.

I had to go out to an appointment yesterday morning and oh, my — it was cold! And icy and slippery everywhere. I’m glad we’ve got some warmer temperatures coming today and through the weekend. Hopefully the ice all melts and is gone before it gets cooler again.

Jake is a very sweet kitty – his fur is incredibly thick and plush and silky. And he is so affectionate.

I don’t know what to say about this Baxter pose. Mr. Q.O. captioned it “Otter in His La-Z-Boy.” I think he’s right!

That toon is so funny! And the boys are truly relaxed and it looks like Baster is just in a groovin’ mood! LOL!

  3. An interesting layout……..even if it isn’t the same as the mystery quilt! Very cheerful and summery. Jake is lovely, I have a soft spot for ginger cats, we have had a couple over the years. Funny pic of Baxter today! You can keep the Polar Bear Club, I don’t even swim when it’s hot…..let alone having to break ice first.
