Smudge Video

Finally, the video is available.  Mr. Q.O. edited it down to just under 4 minutes and it is, we think, hysterically funny.  Even though we see him do this all the time, we can’t stop watching the video! Turn your volume up a bit and you can hear the water dripping off his face back into the water bowl.

  1. You really need to get him a wading pool and let him swim! He’s obviously in a swimming trance dreaming of the wide open waters, diving for fish….or he’s really thirsty and figures if he drenches his fur, he can get a swig off of his fur later! So Funny!

  2. OMG so uniquely hilarious! He takes a bathing drink. This is amazing to see. I’ve never imagined a cat drinking like this. What a complete trip. I love this. Does he groom himself after this, too? What a total hoot!!! He’s done this since he was a kitten, too, ha? WOW!!!!

  4. OMGosh that just cracks me up!!! I agree, he needs his own wading pool. Boy seeing his big paws in action really put their size into perspective.

  5. Smudge is soooo Smudge! I have never seen a cat drink laying down and actually dunking for water. He is so polite in that he uses his big paws to mop up his spills. I can see how he entertains you. Great Video!

  6. That is so funny. The paw is just the same as Bess. We now have a small container on the kitchen window sill just for her and the paw action is just the same. She doesn’t put the whole head in though. Must be a coon thing.

  9. That’s got to be the most laid back way to have a drink I’ve ever seen – why stand and lap when you can lay and dunk?! I love the paw action – it’s like he’s trying to catch a mouse (or maybe a fish) at the same time!

  10. Oh my gosh that is so cute. We love mane coons too. We’ve had a lot of them over the years and have 1 currently. Miss Orange is doing really well and is quite domesticated for being an outdoor cat. We feed them and take care of them pretty darn well. I miss Lester. Sigh.

  11. Love Smudge! Love that you and your sweetie took the time to share this with us! I have never seen a cat do this — and I am a lifelong cat watcher (and cat cherisher, of course)!

  12. That is so funny! I had a cat that would play in the dog water for hours..and made huge puddles too. I used to float leaves and things on the big dog dish of water and it would entertain Opie so well..and us too because it was so funny.. Sadly we lost him a year and a half ago to a genetic heart defect at age 2 1/2.

  13. You need to have a towel ready for when he is finished, so cute! Have you ever turned a sink or bathtub tap on for him? My sisters cat would only drink water this way.

  15. I take it you don’t have to give Smudge very many baths!?!?! This is the funniest thing ever!~ What a COOL cat! He kept going deeper each time and his paw moved in a “swimming” motion… Smudge would love to come play with Ben around the pool!~Ben has learned to drop his toys into the pool, then retrieve them slowly. lol Thank you for taking the time to make this video and share with all of us. XO
